It’s been one year since we at Smoky Mountain Shepherd Rescue adopted Ryder, and we couldn’t be happier. He’s settled in perfectly and loves cuddling, playing with the kids and other dogs, and going on walks through the woods on our property. Chew bones are his absolute favorite, and he brings so much joy to our lives every day.

It’s been one year since Freya (formerly Skye) was adopted, and we’re excited to share an update on her wonderful first year with her forever family.

From her family -

“It was a bit of a feat to get her to sit still. I had to break out the treats, which are nilla wafers… she will do anything for a nilla wafer lol she has also adopted her own baby… an owl she lovingly ripped the stuffing out of and carries with her everywhere.
She’s so smart and has learned so many things, pretty much learns just about anything I try and teach her. She definitely needs the mental exercise of learning tricks or she starts being naughty and digging holes in our yard lol so we’ve learned many commands. She can walk on a leash without pulling, heel, sit, down, come, stay, spin, back up, jump up in the air and stand for a minute, jump up on a surface like a chair or table etc., shake, and roll over (which is what she was in the process of doing in that photo lol)”

Thank you all for your continued support and interest in our rescue.

We’ve recently received a high volume of inquiries regarding available dogs for adoption and whether we’re currently accepting new intakes. At this time, we do not have any dogs available for adoption and are not accepting any new rescues.

We will be sure to share an update as soon as this changes.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support!

UPDATE 6/11/2024

Skye has found her forever home! Thank you everyone for sharing and helping us find this sweet girl a loving home.

Skye is ready to find her forever home after her vet appointment on Saturday, June 15th. We estimate that she is around 3-4 months old. She's good with other dogs, cats, and kids. While she loves to lay down with you and cuddle, please note that Belgian Malinois are a high-energy breed that needs lots of exercise and mental stimulation. If you are looking for a dog to just lie around all day, this is not the dog for you. The adoption fee will go toward the pre-adoption vet visit, the care of Skye, and future rescues.

Ryder has found his forever home with us at Smoky Mountain Shepherd Rescue. He loves hanging out with us and has been soaking up all the attention. He even relaxes on a float in the pool with us! We are so happy to have him as part of our family.

-UPDATE 6/6/2024-
The owners of Skye and Ryder have still not been located and are now off Stray hold. Skye will be available for adoption after her vet appointment on Saturday June 15th.

-5/30/2024-

We may not be open yet, but that won't stop us from rescuing a dog in need.

On stray hold until end of business day June 6th, 2024

German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois were found by friends and brought to us. They were both found in the area of Raulston Rd and Montvale Rd. We are attempting to find the owners to return them home.

Proof of ownership is required so the dogs don't end up in the wrong hands.
