Good morning from the farm.

Osiris, our little hatchling who had a bit of trouble getting out of his shell after Mrs. E had hatched 9 others and left the nest, is doing very well indeed.

Osiris is a fighter, and we were unsure the first few days if they were going to make it. All they would do is pretty much sleep.

However, Osiris is eating and drinking, is now up and getting use to their multi-toe feet, and the ant bites are healing up.

We are trying out a wooden “incubator / brooder” that was sent to us to review, and so far it seems to be perfect as a Hospital Coop for Osiris, and the special halogen bulb provides more than enough heat and spectrum lighting for Osiris.

Mrs.E was up at 6:30, leaving her night time nest in the Hay Barn, and bringing her 9 chicks out to forage.

We have a low waterer for the chicks to reach and also have an area set up for them to get a bit of pellet and crumble.

The Muscovy girls are co-parenting their 3 little ducklings and they are doing great as well.

One of their ducklings, the light brownish one, seems not to pay much attention and wanders off, following other Muscovy’s.

Yesterday, they followed one of our large males all the way down to the back fence area before realizing that he was not his mama’s, and started crying.

The black & white mama ( she is also the larger of the two), had to go get them.

Yesterday we worked a bit more on the new Bantam Coop, getting the wall together and re-installing the new automatic coop door.

We got the roof trusses up, and now I just have to line it with our empty grain bags for waterproofing, and we will use pallet slats to create the roof cover.

Once that’s done, we will tie everything together, endure the welded wire and top cover is secure, and make a lock for the coop main door.

Hopefully, we will have the Bantams in there by Friday.

Getting the new Bantam Chicken enclosure finished up.

We are recycling fencing, an old dog fence / cage and pallets to make their new area.

Since Bantams are so small, we needed a new area with much tighter wire to stop snakes and rodents gettin in.

The only new items are the beads to hold the wire and a new Solar WiFi coop door that has a built in camera, which we were given to review for a company.

The main coop is built from old pallets and shipping crates with a large hinged door so cleaning will be easy.

Just have to build the roof, finish attaching the welded wire, and installing the Solar Panel for the door.

We are hoping to get them moved in by the end of the week.

Sweety got to take the triplets out into the extended area yesterday for the first time.

Good afternoon from the Farm.

Here is the little chick that hatched in our Hay Barn 2 days after Mrs. E had abandoned the nest and took her 9 hatchlings with her.

There was a total of 21 eggs, and the majority were unfortunately not viable, but this little one is a fighter and was cheeping away when we heard him.

He did get a little injury from ants that were cleaning up the nest and empty egg shells and was a bit stuck in his shell, so we were able to get the little one freed.

We set up a temporary small “Incubator / brooder” with a halogen lamp and this little fighter did a lot of sleeping the first 2 days.

We named the chick “Osiris”, and today they are sitting up, curious and has the company of our female cat “Bella” that loves to watch.

Osiris does seem to have a little problem with one leg, which we believe is the result of the ants, but should heal up just fine.

Osiris is quite a fighter, and we are doing everything we can to assist this little chick.

Another interesting day on the farm. First, Daryl injured his arm and elbow and is in a bit of pain but will be ok.

Then we discovered one of the eggs abandoned by Mrs. E after she hatched 9 out of 20 two days ago was viable and trying to hatch.

Ants were attacking the chick that was trapped in its shell, but we managed to free the little one and have it in an incubator.

The little chick is very strong, but did have an injury to one side and a bit of wing that was exposed to the ants.

So far the chick has dried off, slept a bit but is very vocal and getting its footing.

The goats decided to destroy their Goatzy Hay Feeder, tearing off the cover and breaking several of the rungs. I guess we’ll break out the welder again.

Mrs. E is doing well with her new brood of 9. She has been taking them all over the farm, so we have small water stations set up along with some small feeder for her and the babies.

The Muscovy pair in the chicken coop are using the ramps we built to bring out their 3 new ducklings. We also set them up with some low waterers and food area for the small ones to use.

Sweety and her triplets are all doing great. The rest of the herd also takes turns watching them and a couple of the girls who recently had babies have allowed them to nurse at times when their mama is busy eating hay.

They also like to go down to the buck area to visit with their dad and rest of the unfixed bucks.

Our hen Mrs.E hatched out 9 of 20 eggs on Thursday. Friday she left the nest, no longer sitting on the eggs and moved her brood to another area.

Today we heard peeping and found one of the eggs was hatching, and the chick was getting attacked by ants.

We immediately got the little one out and had to assist removing the shell due to a bit of “Shrink Wrapping”.

Luckily we have plenty of incubators and have set one up to warm and dry off the little one.

So far it seems very strong. It does have a bit of a boo boo on its side, probably from ant bites, but we hope we got them in time.

Good afternoon from the farm. Today our two Muscovy girls brought out their 3 new ducklings using the ramps we made yesterday.

They are still protective of them, but today is their first time outside of the coop.

Mrs.E ( one of our hens) has also begun hatching her eggs. So far we have seen 3 new hatchlings, but she is on a nest of 20+ eggs, so hopefully she will have the same luck as Mrs. H did with her 17 chicks out of 21 eggs.

We will try to get some pictures later today.
