The heartbreaking reality is that there are far more dogs and cats in need of homes than there are people willing or able to adopt them. Shelters across the country are overflowing and struggling to keep up with the constant influx of animals. Every day, local pounds take in strays, owner surrenders, and animals rescued from neglect and hoarding situations, often with nowhere left to place them.
We understand that life can sometimes present circumstances that make pet ownership impossible. In some cases, surrendering a beloved pet truly is the only option. But before making that difficult decision, please be certain that every possible avenue has been explored to keep your pet safely at home. If you are struggling, reach out for help. Resources, assistance programs, and supportive communities do exist—you may simply need to ask and do a little research to find them.
These animals did not choose this life. They did not ask to be abandoned, displaced, or forgotten. As humans, we created their dependence on us, and with that comes a responsibility to care for them. Every dog and cat deserves safety, compassion, and the chance to be loved. Adoption doesn't just change an animal's life—it saves it.

Adoptions are slow right now and we are trying our best to move dogs and cats out to homes so that we can help pull animals from Henry County and Martinsville City.

Please help where ever you can, if you can not adopt please volunteer with us or Henry County, Donate or help Educate others on the importance of Spay and Neuter.

For more information on the pets listed below please reach out to Henry County, VA Animal Shelter

Meet Felix! Felix is a 1.5-year-old neutered male with a big personality and an even bigger heart. This high-energy boy loves to play, go for walks, and spend time with his people. While he can be barrier reactive when behind a fence or kennel, he takes correction well and has a submissive nature once he settles in. Felix gets along with other dogs, but he needs a home without cats. Most importantly, Felix has done wonderfully with children—he has interacted with three different kids ranging from 4 to 8 years old and has shown himself to be friendly, affectionate, and eager to be part of the fun. He can be a little hyper at times, but with exercise, structure, and love, Felix has all the qualities to become an amazing family dog. If you're looking for an active, playful companion who will happily join you on adventures and then soak up family time, Felix may be the perfect match! 🐾❤️

You know that feeling when everyone else gets picked for the team and you're still standing there waiting? That's kind of where our sweet Dipper has been since arriving at the shelter just after Christmas.

The funny thing is, he's doing (almost) everything right. He loves people, greets everyone with a happy tail wag (outside his run), enjoys hanging out with his dog friends in play groups, and is always ready for a Doggie Day Out adventure. Whether he's exploring a new trail, riding shotgun on an errand run, or soaking up attention from humans, he's just happy to be included. Dipper's hold-up is that he doesn't present well behind barriers. But that's not his true personality, not even a little bit!

Day after day, he watches other dogs head home while he patiently waits for his turn. We know a great family is out there; we just need them to meet him outside the run.

If you're looking for a fun, friendly companion who will gladly join you on life's adventures and make every day a little brighter, come meet him. He's more than ready to trade his kennel for a couch and a family to call his own.

If you can't adopt, please share, share, share to help him find the home he's been waiting for.

Dipper is one of the many adult dogs who will be included in the Sunshine & Second Chances adoption special starting June 9th and running until June 23rd.

Our feline friends are feeling a little under the weather right now, which means our cats and kittens are temporarily unavailable to meet. But there are still plenty of wonderful cats and kittens waiting for homes at our partner Henry County, VA Animal Shelter! We encourage cat lovers to stop by 140 Jack Dalton Rd and meet the adoptable cats currently in their care. Your new best friend may be waiting there right now.
