Dogs (1 year and older): $40
Puppies (less than one 1 year): $80
Cats/Kittens: $20

All animals that are not already spayed/neutered, will need to be within 30 days of adoption per VA state law, at the adopter's expense. Puppies and kittens will be extended until 6 months of age.

Following yesterday’s Code Red post, we still urgently need to create space.

Thanks to generous sponsorships, all adoption fees are waived TODAY (Saturday 6/6) and again on TUESDAY (6/9).

⏰ Today’s hours (Saturday): 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
📅 Tuesday hours: 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM
(We are closed Sunday and Monday.)

Every adoption helps us make room for the animals still coming through our doors. If you’ve been considering adopting, now is a great time to come meet your new best friend.

🚨 CODE RED: We need your help🚨

Our dog runs are completely full, and we urgently need adopters, fosters, and rescue partners to step forward.

The dogs pictured are currently available and waiting for a chance. However, they are only a small portion of the dogs currently in our care. We also have numerous dogs on court hold that cannot leave the shelter at this time, as well as stray dogs that are still within their required hold period and are not yet available.

Unfortunately, that means many of our kennels are occupied by dogs we legally cannot move, leaving very little space for incoming animals in need.

If you have been considering adopting, fostering, or helping in any way, now is the time. Every adoption or foster placement opens a lifesaving space for another animal.

Please share this post, tag friends and family who may be looking for a pet, and contact the shelter if you’re interested in meeting one of our available dogs.

Please note: If an adopted animal has not already been spayed or neutered, the adopter is required to have the procedure completed within 30 days of adoption at their own expense.

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at your local animal shelter? Now is your chance to find out!

Come spend the morning with our Animal Services team and learn more about the work that goes into caring for the animals in our community. We’ll be sharing information about shelter operations, animal care, animal control services, adoptions, fostering, and ways you can help make a difference for homeless pets right here in Henry County.

And of course, we won’t be coming alone! 🐶

Joining us will be four of our adoptable shelter residents:

These lovable pups are looking for forever homes and would love the chance to meet some new friends. Whether you’re thinking about adopting, interested in volunteering, or simply want to learn more about Animal Services, we’d love to see you there.

🌟 Foster Spotlight: Spud 🌟

Some dogs have big thoughts… Spud has big vibes! At just 7 months old, Spud’s world is made up of sunshine, rainbows, and the unwavering belief that every day is the best day ever. This happy-go-lucky boy has never met a bad day and is always ready for whatever adventure comes next.

Spud loves people, adores playing with other dogs, and has so much enthusiasm. He’s goofy, fun, and guaranteed to keep you laughing.

Despite his goofy side, Spud is actually a smart pup. He already knows “crate” and is doing great with his kennel training, keeping a clean kennel and settling nicely into his routine. Training sessions are kept short because this active young guy has so much excitement for the world that focusing for long periods can be a challenge.

Spud gets along well with other dogs and can do well with cats, but he’s still a puppy and learning that chasing them is not part of the job description.

Originally picked up as a stray, Spud is currently living in a foster home while he waits for a family of his own.

If you’re looking for a fun, active companion who will keep life interesting, Spud might be your perfect match.
