The Blair County Dog Park volunteer Board of Directors has voted to replace the 12-year-old fencing at the dog park.
The existing fencing has been a problem and a security issue during the past few years due to the effect of freeze/thaw on the posts that secure the fencing.
The board has been writing and submitting grant requests to help fund the project that is estimated to total approximately $30,000.
The existing fencing surrounds about 5 acres of the total 10 acres of the park.
The dog park is a non profit, private membership park and receives no funding through any government entity. No one is paid. The park operates solely on donations and nominal membership fees (just $6.25 a month). Management is by volunteers.
We are reaching out to existing members and to the community to help with the cost by donating to the project or by sponsoring a fence section or a gate. Fence section sponsorships are $100. Gate sponsorships are $500. Each sponsorship will be acknowledged by a metal sign that will remain for 5+ years.
People or businesses may donate by sending a check with a note about the type of donation (straight, fence or gate) to the:

Blair County Dog Park Association
c/o Bonnie Risser, Treasurer
P.O. Box 191
Martinsburg, PA 16662

Please make checks payable to the Blair County Dog Park Assn.
Your donation is tax deductible.

The entrance to the park was renovated several years ago through donations and special gifts and has made a big difference.
We are most appreciative to our donors. 🐾❤️

Membership applications are available on our website at:

Our membership year runs from April - March.

Over the past several months I've noticed holes being dug mainly in the large dog area that has now occurred in the other 2 areas as well. Last count I noted 20+ holes in the large dog area alone, indicative of owners either not paying attention to their dogs, or worse allowing this to happen. Some of these holes are deep enough to twist an ankle on.
Let's be responsible dog owners. Pay attention to your dogs while there. Keep them under control.
Thank you.

We have not posted anything for a very long time.
This has been an off year for us with having to deal with the gas line construction and follow-up repair work.
The board has been working on plans for next year to increase membership and address the deteriorating fencing issues.
We will keep you all informed on that.

We wanted to address an issue that was reported last week at the park when several dogs attacked another dog in the large dog park section. Apparently, there were many dogs and the tension was high.

We have to state clearly that everyone needs to read the Rules of the Dog Park. Even if you have gone through them before, please do so again.
We are very clear about aggressiveness in the park. Any type of aggressive behavior can entice a dog fight. Aggressive behavior begins with even the slightest nip, snarl or a dog jumping on another dog. During the dog fight not only the dogs but people can get seriously hurt. We have to take every caution possible to prevent this from happening.
If you take your dog to the park and there are several dogs in an area, particularly the large dog park area, please take your dog to another section. There is the large confidence course which is a great Park to run your dog.
EVERYONE is responsible for their own dog. Everyone must be accountable for the actions of their dog.

Let's keep our beautiful Park safe, friendly and welcoming to everyone-- Dogs and people included. 🐾🐾🐾

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Texas Eastern has underground gas pipes running through the top part of the Dog Park. These lines have been there for decades and go down through the entrance driveway and across the top part of the park behind the storage building and garage. In the big picture, these lines carry liquid gasoline from Texas to Maine. The replacement pipes will be 36" in diameter. Contractors will be replacing the pipes with work starting toward the end of the month and continuing through summer. You will not have access to the park through the main driveway. They are building a temporary road through the field that runs to the left of the current driveway as you go into the park. There will be noise from heavy equipment during the weekday. Evenings and weekends should not be affected.

Surveyors will be out starting next week to mark the easement edges, the temporary work spaces and other features across the project work areas. We anticipate starting construction at the end of the month.

Here is the letter from the land procurement officer:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Blair County Dog Park Association:
Texas Eastern Transmission, LP will be conducting planned activities on its existing system in Blair County near HWY 164 and Agway Road in Martinsburg, PA.
The work is anticipated to begin in February 2025 and should be completed by September 1, 2025. Traditional access to the dog park will be impacted during this time. Alternate access will be provided by Texas Eastern to allow for ongoing use.
We appreciate your patience and are committed to continuing to communicate with you regarding the work and access to the dog park.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

FYI I have attached the topographical map of the dog park showing the project area. Note the bright green marking to the right of the map. This will be the temporary entrance road into the park. You will still be able to park in the same areas as usual. The work will not affect any of the gated areas of the dog park.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at [email protected]

Sincerely,
Roseanne Conrad, President
Blair County Dog Park Association

Thank you to whoever mowed the park today or yesterday. It looks beautiful! There was quite a crowd there tonight and I'm sure they all appreciated it as well.

Thanks to Bill and Karen for putting up some new message board on the large shed.
