🚨🐾 We have a HUGE announcement to make! Let us introduce to you, PROJECT PITSTOP! 🐾🚨

We are teaming up with Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan County Animal Controls to tackle a big problem.

Right now, our shelters are overflowing with pitbulls and bully mixes. Many of these amazing dogs end up in overcrowded facilities because of backyard breeders and irresponsible dog owners, who have "accidental" litters.
Project Pitstop is here and we are hoping to change that!

💙 What we’re doing:
✅ FREE spay/neuter for ALL pitbull & bully mixes
✅ FREE rabies vaccine (if needed)
✅ FREE microchip with lifetime registration

This program is 100% FREE for dog owners — no strings attached. That means more healthy, happy, dogs in loving homes… and fewer in shelters.

We are currently offering the program to pitties/bullies being adopted out from all three animal controls. We are hoping to open up applications to the public on Sept 8th pending funds!!

🌟 How you can help:

SHAREEEE this post of course!!

We need the funding in place to be able to open this program up to the public in a month, even if it's $1 or $5, please donate! Investing in our community is the only way to get ourselves out of this animal crisis we are in right now.

Together, we can save lives before they even enter the shelter system.

Arlow and Millie both had follow up appointments today!
Arlow got his splints changed. It was very exhausting for him as you can see lol he slept the whole way back! 😂
Millie had her elbow checked out and they gave her antibiotics to clear any infection so hopefully the spot on her elbow heals quickly now! Millie is so sweet, every time someone was walking in, she got excited like she knew them lol

We are having a fall event on Sept 21st and are still looking for vendors and food trucks, fee is $25 and there's plenty of space! Vendors do not have to sell dog items. Last year's event had a great turnout and we didn't even have vendors so I'm anticipating this year's event to be even more successful!

Millie recovery update:

Millie's appointment to have her staples removed isn't until Monday but they were definitely ready to come out, so I decided to just go ahead and take them out myself today. She laid there like a little angel the entire time! I can't wait to give her a bath tonight and get her all cleaned up. I know she is going to feel like a whole new girl! 🥰💕

Lucy update:
She had a checkup at the vet today and considering the fact that she's 15 years old... she's in decent condition. We think she is nearly deaf but she can definitely see and that nose sniffs away!
On our nearly 40min drive from ac to the foster yesterday, she was panting super heavy but it didnt seem like it was due to being nervous so I was concerned of congestive heart failure or maybe labored breathing due to the large mass being cancerous and it spreading to her lungs but the vet seems to think it's just from her being an overweight, out of shape old girl who has had one too many life changing events recently and she was just stressed 🥺
I can tell you one thing, Lucy is so absolutely sweet.... I knew the second I walked into animal control yesterday and she greeted me with kisses, a happy, wagging tail and was just ready to roll, that I wasnt taking her back after we left.
There's something about a 15yr old dog at animal control or a humane society that just doesn't sit right with me.
Are we full!? Yes. Do I say every other day that we are closed for intake? Yes... but sometimes my rescue heart wins and I just can't say no.
I am BEYOND thankful for our fosters, adopters, and donors who continue to step up and give these dogs a home and keep funding our mission....Everyone who donates....All of the Wishlist items sent... the post shares... I'm really not sure how to express how appreciative I am of every single one of you but look at these pictures and you'll feel exactly what I do every single time I can say yes to pulling a dog into this rescue.

Just a 15yr old pup, getting a chance to live her golden years in a home, with someone who is going to make sure she is safe, loved, and comfortable for every single day she has left. She even has a few new friends to let her know that life is good now and she has nothing to worry about.
This was my vision when I started fostering and rescuing dogs years ago... when no one else believes in or is willing to save a dog, I'll be there to say yes.
Lucy deserves this, they all deserve this!! 💕

Update on Millie's recovery:

Her incision is almost completely healed and her staples will be removed in a week! She still has an open wound on her elbow that I believe is due to her skin being pulled so tight after it swelled at first. I've been cleaning it a few times a day and spaying vetericyn on it to keep it from getting infected and that seems to have helped it heal some but it's just not quite there yet.
She actually decided to lay down and sunbathe on the porch this morning, which she usually doesn't do so I thought I'd take a picture of her relaxing for once. Little miss busy body is finally starting to settle a bit lol I think a lot of her "busyness" was just because she was not use to being inside so she didn't know what to do.

Everyone welcome senior girl Lucy to the ATWDR crew!

We pulled her from Morgan County Animal Control today. She is 15 years old and has a tumor that's almost as big as Millie's was but unfortunately Lucy's is wrapped under her armpit, where there are large arteries and due to her age we wouldn't consider surgery anyway. We aren't sure how much time she has left here on earth but we wanted to be sure it wasn't spent at the shelter! We had two amazing people step up ready to be a fospice home for her so we knew we had a really good chance of pulling her today!

Since we know she won't be able to have surgery and her needs will be minimal (the foster also said she would be willing to adopt her and cover any medical expenses). We would still like to cover the cost of end of life care (euthanasia cost, possible er visit cost etc), cremation, and maybe a little something special they make with her ashes for the foster, when Lucy passes. We are estimating this to be about $600. Aside from that we have made Lucy an Amazon Wish so she can have all of the things she could ever ask for! We don't know much about her yet but I'm guessing the only things she would ask for is a few really soft beds to lounge on and some treats to snack on throughout the day! She is the SWEETEST girl. She greeted me right away with a wagging tail and kisses when I picked her up from animal control earlier 🥹💕. She was excited for her freedom ride and stuck her head out of the window to get some fresh air and all of the sniffs!
