---Helpful Tips---
Since we get new followers all the time we like to post these tips every now and then. Please consider printing them off so you have them handy.
For dogs....
Place a piece of your worn, unlaundered clothing and a bed or blanket of the pets outside where lost (these are 'scent articles')
Contact near by vet clinics, groomers, boarding kennels (many people take found pets there)
Dogs tend to follow creeks, highways, gravel roads and fence lines when possible so look for those spots.
For cats....
Place used litter box outside. Look late at night (after 10pm) since cats wander more when there is less noise.
Shine a flashlight while looking at night it may catch the cat's eyes
Shake package of treats while calling the cat's name. Leave your garage door up 5" and leave food and water out.
For All animals....
Make a lost or found report with your local animal shelter and check there in person every other day (if it's a pet you found take it to any vet, they will look for a microchip or tag number at no cost) Get fliers out asap (stop any drivers...UPS, mail carriers, etc. in your area, many of them have been very helpful at watching while on their routes). Check garages, sheds, under porches and ask neighbors to also.
Note: if you live in the city of Martin all found animals should be reported to High Plains Animal Clinic (605)685-6620. You may keep a found pet at your home while searching for owner but it's best to have a found report filed. Most shelters only hold found pets for a few days before adopting them out so be sure to check in person at least every other day.
Please consider Vaccinating and Licensing your pet!!
Many shelters return a chipped, licensed and vaccinated pet free.
