A very *hot topic* in the grooming industry.

Scout is an English Cream Retriever who now looks like a yellow lab. He lives on a farm where he’d much rather be outside than in the house and his family is the epitome of outdoor adventurists. Hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, the whole nine yards. 
Shaving double coats is often thought of as neglectful or abusive. Many groomers will refuse clients that want their double coated dog shaved. While yes, it can absolutely damage their coat, not allow the coat to grow back properly, it’s said to also not allow the body to heat and cool properly. I am a firm believer that at the end of the day you are the dog owner and it’s your choice to have your dogs coat cut how you like. As long as I’ve properly educated you in all the risks your choice is for your pet is simply that… your choice. Scout has had his coat shaved many times and it always grows back thick and healthy and his family loves that he can enjoy all of their outdoor adventures without them worrying about what is stuck in his hair or him getting snagged up in brush or old fancing. ❤️🐶🦴

I CANNOT express how painful this is for your pets. Imagine walking on stiletto heals for a month straight! That’s how they feel. Their ankles, hips, shoulders, back are all thrown out of wack. If you cannot afford to have your pets nails done, please dont neglect them and simply reach out. It’s not fair to them to have to live in a world of pain. If an elderly family member has a pet with long nails, please reach out and bring them in for them. Sometimes people simply dont know any better… Im typically in my shop from 7:30 am - 6 or 7 pm. It takes me roughly 5-10 mins to do nails. I charge $12 and have a punch card for buy 5 get 1 free and I LOVE doing nails. Vet offices charge upwards of $40.

Rescue Groom Saturday was activated when we got the call from Copper Paws Rescue, Inc. ! While this sweet little boy surprisingly wasn’t matted, other than lots of burdocks that I was able to brush out, his smell from laying in urine and f***s permeated the whole shop when a volunteer dropped him off . When a rescue is that stained, the smell will probably never go away without removing the hair. From an Amish Puppy Mill to a room full of doggies, loads of kisses, vacuum cleaners running, music playing, being sprayed with water, scrubbed, sprayed again, dried with a noisy dryer, shaved with a vibrating clipper and trimmed with a sharp shears this boy sat like a champ! I have full grown dogs that don’t behave as well as he did! I couldn’t believe how well rounded he was! It was astronomically hard for me to take him back, but we know that his perfect family is out there!

My sweet grandpa dog, Chance was in a few weeks ago and always got “The Kings Sweet” when he came in for nails and/or bath! He sure did love a comfy bed! Unfortunately, he passed away this week so I will no longer be able to pamper him, but I am forever grateful that I was able to meet him and reconnect with his family as I once was their daycare provider! My heart breaks for you during this time. May he rest in peace over the rainbow bridge. 🐶💔🦴🎾
