Huge shoutout to Van Chiropractic for helping me get rid of my back pain! As a dog trainer working with large breeds, my job can be tough on my body, but thanks to Van Chiropractic, I’m able to keep doing what I love. If you’re in Marshall, MO, and need a chiropractor, I highly recommend them!

Take a peek at Moose’s bus ride to the park.

This isn’t just a walk; I start by building a solid foundation with basic obedience commands like focus, sit, down, stay, and more. I implement these commands during our socialized walks to make it a positive experience.

My primary goal is to socialize dogs as much as possible. I take them on bus rides and to new environments, exposing them to various sounds and distractions to help them feel confident and comfortable in different situations.

By maintaining consistency, I’m able to teach polite leash manners, including loose leash walking and a focused heel.

When I first met Homie, one of his biggest challenges was his intense reaction to seeing other dogs out the window—it seemed like he was ready to jump through it! The big question was whether this behavior stemmed from excitement or aggression.

After weeks of dedicated desensitization training around other dogs, we successfully reached his dog mama’s goal: Homie is now able to board and attend day play with ease!

Meet Stacy, who was frightened every time she approached the gate door. Instead of walking through, she would put on the brakes, and her doggie mama would have to pull her through.

To help Stacy, we used counter conditioning. We scattered high-value treats near the gate door, pairing the previously negative stimulus with a positive outcome. Within our first session, Stacy began to associate the gate door with something positive, allowing her to overcome her fear and walk through confidently.

Loose leash walking with Kooby!

Kooby has come a long way from his extreme leash pulling days. Aside from teaching him leash pressure, we focused on strengthening basic commands such as sit-stay and focus and taught Kooby to wait for our release before setting a foot outside.

We still have some work to do, especially in more stimulating environments, but by sticking to a daily routine and staying consistent with practice, we will have Kooby on the structured walk his owner has always wanted!

Ever wondered why your furry friend goes wild when a car drives by? Here are a few reasons:

1. Territorial Instincts: Dogs see cars as intruders and bark to defend their turf.
2. Prey Drive: The movement triggers their instinct to chase, just like a squirrel!
3. Fear or Anxiety: Loud, fast cars can be scary, and barking helps them cope.
4. Attention Seeking: Sometimes, barking gets them the attention they crave.
5. Boredom or Energy: They might just need more exercise or mental stimulation.

Understanding these reasons can help you manage their behavior and keep them safe.

Training your dog isn't just about teaching new tricks, it's about strengthening your bond and ensuring they are happy and healthy. That's why it's crucial to choose the right method for each new behavior. Here’s why luring, shaping, and capturing each play a unique role:

🍖 “Luring” involves using a treat or toy to guide your dog into a desired behavior. It's great for beginners because it clearly shows your dog what you want and helps with quick learning of basic commands like "sit" or "down."

🧩 “Shaping” breaks a behavior into small steps and rewards progress along the way. It’s perfect for teaching complex tricks or behaviors that your dog might not naturally offer, boosting their problem-solving skills and confidence!

📸 “Capturing” catches your dog performing a behavior naturally and rewards them. This reinforces good behaviors that occur in their everyday activities, making it a natural and stress-free method of learning.

Choosing the right method can make learning enjoyable and effective, ensuring your furry friend learns quickly and with ease. Think about what you want to achieve, consider your dog’s personality, and select the method that suits both best.

🐾 Struggling with a jumpy pup who loves saying hello a little too enthusiastically? 🐶 We've all been there!

👉 Here’s a simple trick: Reward your dog for keeping all four paws on the floor. Treats, praise, and petting when they’re calm reinforces good behavior. Use commands like "sit" during greetings to redirect their energy. Anytime they jump, Turn away and ignore them until they settle down.

Transform your walks from stressful to stress-free with these simple tips to stop leash pulling!

1. **Stop & Go**: When your dog pulls, stop in your tracks. Resume walking only when there is no tension on the leash. This teaches your dog that pulling gets them nowhere fast.

2. **Practice Makes Perfect**: Regular, short practice sessions are more effective than one long walk. Keep training sessions upbeat and positive!

3. **Turn It Into a Game**: Make walks fun by changing direction frequently. This keeps your dog’s attention on you and not on pulling ahead.

Ready to enjoy peaceful, pleasant walks with your four-legged friend? Start implementing these tips today and feel the difference!
