I know we get a LOT of Chicagoans out here - And Heidi - She is from the western 'burbs originally. She speaks fluent Chicago with Both Glen Ellyn, and Naperville accents as well as Chicago technospeak as in frunchroom.
Heidi may have lived here most of her life, but tick her off and She WILL put her Glen Ellyn on and remind you that you do eat your deep dish with a knife and fork! But alas you cannot get true deep dish this far west of the City by the Lake
But all chicagoland accents and references are welcomed here at Acres of Peace.
Chicago: (Now say it right, y’all!)
Heading into the city this weekend? 🌆
You already know how bad I-90/I-94 traffic gets, so share this with someone from out of town so they don’t embarrass themselves trying to sound local.
If they’re gonna be sitting bumper-to-bumper on the Dan Ryan, crawling past the skyline, or getting completely lost trying to figure out Lower Wacker… they might as well say things the right way while they’re doing it. 🚧
There is nothing that exposes a non-Chicagoan faster than someone asking for directions to “Illi-noise” or trying to pronounce “Paulina” like it looks.
📍One to Add: “Devon”
If I had to add one more to that sign, it would definitely be Devon.
To the rest of the world, it looks simple… but Chicagoans know there’s only one way to say it:
• DEVON: (deh-VON)
And whatever you do, don’t say “DEE-von.” That’s the fastest way to get called out.
Safe travels… and remember: no ketchup. 🌭🚗💨
