Did you know...
"Doggy breath" could be a sign of an underlying serious illness? Bad breath could signify a serious health risk with the potential to harm not only teeth and gums, but internal organs as well. According to the American Veterinary Dental College ( AVDC), most dogs and cats have some evidence of periodontal disease by the age of three. While daily tooth brushing is advised, studies show only two percent of owners are following through with this practice.
Regular dental exams are an integral part of a pet's overall health care. Not only causing receding gums, tooth loss and significant pain, bacteria in the mouth can enter the bloodstream with the potential to affect the heart, liver, and kidneys, which can be life threatening.

Happy Fall!

Message to our canine patients and their owners:

Dr. Haywood is concerned that the dog flu might be picking up in our area. Please consider coming in for a dog flu vaccine. As long as your pet has been seen here within the last year, you can call to schedule a tech appointment to get the vaccine. Otherwise your pet would need to be scheduled for an exam by Dr. Haywood to get the vaccine.

Please call us with any questions or concerns.

Good morning, Myoma Family. We would like to update you with some changes here at the hospital in regards to COVID-19.

1. We are open and seeing patients. However, we are operating based on demand. So please give us a quick call before you stop by if it is not for a scheduled appointment.

2. We are seeing sick/injured animals, puppies and kittens and we are also doing necessary surgical procedures.

3. We are being very vigilant about sanitizing (with a virus solution) all public areas and we are doing this at least 3 times per day and especially after each visit. We also are wearing gloves and masks for our protection as well as yours. Don't hesitate to come in with your mask on as well! 😷😷😷😷

4. We are limiting the number of people in the waiting area so when you get here please call and we will advise you when to come in and go directly into the exam room.

5. If you would prefer to not come in at all, please also call when you arrive and we will come out to get your pet.

6. For those of you picking up meds, food or any over the counter products, if you prefer not to come in we will take payment over the phone and bring them out to you. This will be done at your request. Otherwise, you may come in if the waiting room is empty.

Thank you for your cooperation during this difficult time. Please don't hesitate to call us for any reason. Stay healthy!

Hi, I am Cheryl Lynn Haywood, VMD, I often am called Dr. Cheryl by my clients. I've been a veterinarian for the past 30 years and am in absolutely the right profession for me. I consider myself the animal's advocate and always strive to do my best for them. I have been passionate about and committed to animal care since a young girl, and remain this way to this day. I grew up in Bucks County, PA (outside Philadelphia); attended Penn State University for undergrad and University of Penn for vet school. I've lived in Butler County for the past 25 years. I have a number of dogs and cats now (I call them "my kids"). I have also had rabbits, guinea pigs, pet rats and hamsters in the past. I have been involved in dog and cat rescue for 40 years - yes, even before I became a vet!

My special interests in veterinary medicine include:
Spending the time to get puppies and kittens off to a good start, both with their health and with training.
Geriatric medicine, I love the old ones and believe they need special care and attention as they age.
Behavior medicine

Many of my long term clients have become my friends over the years. I would love to have others join them.
