🐾❤️ A Very Special Day at Animal Medical Center of Marquette! ❤️🐾

This week, our team had the privilege of spaying and neutering 13 rescue Bloodhounds as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.

These sweet dogs have already been through so much, and we are honored to play a small role in helping them on their journey toward loving forever homes. Spaying and neutering is an important step in preparing rescue animals for adoption, improving their health and helping reduce pet overpopulation.

We are incredibly proud of our doctors and staff for dedicating their time, skill, and compassion to ensure these dogs are healthy and ready to begin their new lives.

We wish each of these Bloodhounds nothing but loving families, warm beds, and many happy years ahead.

A heartfelt thank you to the rescue organization for the incredible work they do every day to give animals a second chance. It truly takes a community working together to make stories like these possible.

Here's to new beginnings and futures filled with love!

Jojo and Siggy had their first kitten appointment at Animal Medical Center of Marquette today, and they were such brave little explorers! 🐾❤️ They got lots of treats, attention, and care, but even a fun, Fear Free visit is a lot for two tiny kittens.

Now they're completely worn out, all snuggled up together, recharging after their big adventure. Watching them cuddle is just about the cutest thing ever. 🥹🐱🐱

With the weather being so dreary outside, I think they've got the right idea. Some days are just made for staying cozy inside, snuggling your best buddy, and sleeping through the rain. 😴💕

A dog cooling off pants easier as he rests. A dog slipping into heat stroke pants harder, and his gums shift to brick red. That one small check can tell you whether a warm afternoon has turned into an emergency. Our latest post walks through the early signs families miss and what to do on the drive in.

We would like to welcome our new veterinarian, Marquette’s own Dr. Bethany Rudness, to the AMC family🐕🐈‍⬛🐩🥳

Dr. Bethany was born and raised in Marquette, so you’ve probably seen her around through the years! After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at NMU in 2020, she got accepted to the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2022. She enjoyed her brief 4-year “vacation” at MSU, but couldn’t beat the call of Lake Superior and had to return home to practice.

While at MSU, Dr. Bethany found an interest in small animal rehabilitation, nutrition, and small animal emergency medicine. She participated in several vaccine clinics for the East Lansing community and has a strong passion for owner education. She has spoken to the NMU Pre-Vet club for the past few years and loves interacting with anyone interested in the field of veterinary medicine. She is level 2 Fear Free certified, holds several American Kennel Club evaluator certifications, and has a 4-year background in positive reinforcement dog training from her time at TacoMo Dog Training during her undergraduate studies.

Dr. Bethany adopted a beagle/lab mix from MSU’s on-campus research facility and named him Scamp. She found her fun in between classes and studying to socialize and train him, and he’s now 3 years old with the biggest ears and a bubbly personality. She lives in Marquette with Scamp and finds any excuse to get outside, especially during this beautiful UP summer weather. She loves attending local theatre, exploring her hometown, and catching a beer at local breweries. Scamp loves going to Poet’s Pet Parlor to make new friends and getting the occasional puppy ice cream at Frosty Treats!

Dr. Bethany looks forward to serving the community she grew up in, and can’t wait to grow as the veterinary professional that’s been 20+ years in the making.

You’ll see Dr. Bethany here at the hospital starting in July. Stop by and say hello, we are so excited to have her!

A swollen lymph node in your dog or cat does not automatically mean cancer, but it is not something to watch and wait on either. Our latest post explains what enlarged lymph nodes can signal, why prompt evaluation matters, and what testing helps clarify the cause.

🎉 We’re officially Fear Free Certified again! 🎉

The team at Animal Medical Center of Marquette is proud to announce that our entire hospital has been re-certified as a Fear Free Veterinary Practice!

So what does Fear Free actually mean?

🐾 Fear Free is a movement in veterinary medicine focused on reducing fear, anxiety, and stress in pets during veterinary visits.
Our goal is simple: we want your pet to feel as safe, comfortable, and calm as possible every step of the way.

What Fear Free looks like at AMC
• Gentle handling and low-stress restraint techniques
• Treats, toys, and positive reinforcement during visits
• Calm exam rooms and soothing pheromones
• Reading your pet’s body language and moving at their pace
• Pre-visit medications when needed to reduce anxiety
• Training our team every year on the newest low-stress techniques

Why this matters ❤️

Veterinary visits can be scary for pets. When fear and stress are reduced:
• Pets have better health outcomes
• Exams are more thorough and accurate
• Visits become more positive over time
• Pet parents feel less stress too!

We believe veterinary care should never be frightening — it should be a positive, supportive experience for both you and your pet.

Thank you for trusting us to care for your furry family members. We’re so proud to continue providing compassionate, Fear Free care for our community! 🐶🐱
