Professional dog and cat grooming in downtown Marlette. Barks and Bubbles Pet Salon is insured, has certified groomers on site through the Michigan School of Canine Cosmetology as well as Certified Canine Estheticians through Christein Pearson-Sertzel and WPAPGC. We have multiple CPR/First Aid trained groomers on site and strive to provide a positive grooming experience for each pet we see. Barks

and Bubbles Pet Salon also loves to support local rescue groups and offers free and/or discounted grooms to 501(c)(3) organizations and pet parents of newly adopted/rescued dogs. We offer walk-in nail trim/grind services for $10-$15 and are currently welcoming new grooming clients.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be taking some time to introduce you to our team! Today we introduce you to Ashley, our newest addition. Ashley accepted our open bather position a few weeks ago and even though she just started she fits in perfectly with the team.

Ashley has dogs and cats of her own and has a love for all animals. She enjoys taking a yearly trip to Alaska to catch up with her family, especially if she can time that with the salmon run. She enjoys crocheting, tending to her plants, and spending time in the woods hunting deer and antler sheds.

Ashley comes in every day with a smile on her face ready to make sure your doggies are squeaky clean and ready to be groomed. We often catch her in the bathing area singing to the dogs. She’s an ambitious young lady eager to learn and stays after her duties are done to job shadow and see what she can learn.

We often hear from clients asking when is a good time to bring their doodle puppy in for their first groom. This week a potential client reached out because they were *told* to wait until their doodle puppy was a year old. PLEASE do not wait that long! Doodles need regular grooming starting at a young age.

You should start acclimating your doodle puppy to grooming as soon as you bring them home, practice handling their paws and brushing. For the first professional groom, it's recommended to wait until they are up to date with their boosters, typically around 12 to 14 weeks of age. The first groom is typically not a full haircut. We prefer to do a face/feet/fanny visit as an initial introduction. This is a gentle way to introduce them to the grooming process. Puppies remember their first experiences quite well and their first grooming experience can stay with them the rest of their life. We want to make it positive! Doodles require 4-8 week regular on-going grooming appointments depending on the type of coat and length you like to keep them. Waiting too long for initial grooming and not bringing your pup in enough is a recipe for matting as well as setting them up for behavioral issues and associating negative experiences with the grooming process.

Puppies are fun and cute but it's your responsibility as an owner to be proactive with training and socialization skills. With a bit of knowledge and preparation we can work together to make sure your pup has a great first grooming experience!
