This weekend, members of our Young Agricultural Professionals Committee attended the 2026 Young Farmers & Ranchers Conference in Portland, Oregon. Alongside young farmers from all over the country, our team attended many educational breakout sessions, networking events, and toured farms in Oregon & Washington.

These conferences provide valuable life-long trainings and education, both applicable on the farm and in professional settings, as well as a fantastic opportunity to network and build connection with other young farmers. We are grateful for the opportunity to create more well-rounded leaders on our committee!

A new bill in Massachusetts proposes a tax credit of up to $5,000 for farmers who donate their extra produce and cosmetic rejects to food banks and pantries, in order to reduce food waste and help those facing food insecurity.

After a quick vote at the state meeting, we have a brand new name: the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Young Agricultural Professionals!

This change aims to be more inclusive not just to young farmers, but everyone who is involved in agricultural careers: vets, equipment manufacturers and dealers, teachers in ag programs, scientists, business professionals, civil servants, and more. All of these professionals are a crucial part of the agricultural support system and we want our name to reflect that.

We join many other states in this transition to a new name, and are excited to embrace 2026 as YAPpers!

Our Young Farmers and Ranchers had an amazing tour Thursday morning at Nourse Farms in Whately, MA!

We got a behind-the-scenes look at their greenhouse berry production, saw thousands of young plants at every stage of growth, and even had the chance to learn about their labs where the real magic happens.

It was inspiring to learn how much science, precision, and passion goes into producing the berries we all enjoy. Huge thank-you to the Nourse team for opening their doors and sharing their knowledge with us!

Massachusetts agriculture is full of innovation, and it’s exciting for our young farmers to experience it firsthand. 🍓🌱

THANK YOU to all of our bidders (and bingo-ers!) last night at the MFBF dinner YF&R Bingo games and Services Auction! Winners walked away with branding packages, farmstand help, sign decorating, chainsaws, pitchforks, and more.

Your support is absolutely invaluable as our small-state ("Where exactly is Massachusetts?" is a common question) young farmers continue to hold their own at conferences and conventions!
