As spring and summer roll in, lawns start to matter again 🌱
Some people love the golden “no w**ds in sight” look… others still like their grass green and alive.
Either way — quick, important reminder for your dogs:
There are multiple veterinary studies showing a link between common lawn chemicals (especially w**d killers like 2,4-D) and certain cancers in dogs — mainly lymphoma and bladder cancer.
This isn’t fear-mongering, it’s been looked at for years:
• Dogs exposed to treated lawns have shown higher rates of lymphoma
• Increased risk has also been seen with bladder cancer in some breeds
• Chemicals have been detected in dogs’ urine after lawn exposure — even when it wasn’t their own yard
Why this matters:
Dogs don’t just walk on grass — they absorb it through their paws, lick it off, and live close to the ground. What’s on the lawn ends up in them.
No need to panic or overhaul your life — just be aware and make small adjustments where you can:
• Avoid freshly treated lawns (give it at least 48–72 hours)
• Wipe paws after walks
• Be mindful at parks, sports fields, and even neighbors’ yards
• If you treat your own lawn, spot-treat instead of blanket spraying
This isn’t about perfect — it’s about reducing exposure where it’s easy to do so.
Your dog trusts you to make those calls for them 🤍
