Prince's ruff house

Prince's ruff house Animal Advocacy for ALL animals We decided that we wanted an orange tabby kitten and it had to be a female. We got in the car and took Bonky straight to the vet.

BONKY'S STORY:
On 10June2011, we went to a shelter in Blountville, Tennesse, we were going to get my early birthday present, which was going to be a kitty. We had been on youtube and fell in love with this tiny kitten named Bonky, as we were watching the videos we came to the one where Bonky had passed away. We decided to name her Bonky because we wanted to honor the kitten that passed away, from

the youtube videos. We drove to the shelter and were so excited when we got there, that we could hardly wait to get inside and start our search for the perfect kitten. We walked down the hallway past all of the dogs and into the cat room, we immediately started looking around and that is how we found the Momma and her two kittens. A shelter worker got the kittens out and we decided on the one that was more active and looked like a baby tiger, with her stripes. The shelter told us she was 8 weeks old and we were ecastic because that was the age we were looking for, we went up front filled out all the paperwork and paid her adoption fee. We took her to the car, where our 4 1/2 year old Beagle/Lab dog. Prince Andrew Wigglebottoms, was waiting to greet his new sister. Once at the vet, I, Lindsey, filled out the paperwork while Prince was held by Robert and Bonky was in the kennel on the floor. Shortly after all the paperwork was filled out we got called to the back. Sutherland and I went to the back with Bonky, while Robert stayed out front with Prince. The vet tech asked us all the important questions and we let her know that we had just gotten her and that we were here for her shots. The vet tech took Bonky and weighed her and came back and told us that she only weighed 11 ounces, shortly after that the vet came in and started looking at her and that was when we were informed that she was AT THE MOST 4 weeks old. Needless to say we were upset because we were lied to and our biggest concern was her eating and drinking. The vet said as long as she ate and drank she would be fine, so we went home and got her bowls set up. Bonky decided she wasnt hungry so we didn't force her, but after and hour or so we tried getting her to eat and she wouldn't, so I called the vet and they told me to supplement her with the milk replacement product, so Sutherland and I rushed to Wal-Mart and got the stuff we would need. When we got home we took a syrnge and fed her that way. Sutherland and I spent the next 2 days hand feeding this tiny kitten that fit in the palm of our hands. On 12June2011, I woke up that morning to find Bonky curled up at my feet, she had passed away sometime during the night after her last feeding at 6 A.M. She was curled up in a ball, as if she was a sleeping angel. I woke Sutherland up with tears streaming down face and told her Bonky had passed away. From that day on both of us decided that we wouldn't let her memory die in vain, we both decided that it was time to start our own rescue, thus Bonky's Friends is in the process of being founded.

I am sad to say that Bonky's Friends is gone. It seems it never had a chance...it is dead before it had a chance to become a reality. Thank you to everyone that supported us while we still had the dream of becoming a great animal rescue/shelter. Unfortunately, we will never know what a difference we could have made in the world of animal rescue.

TODAY... Mazel is in a temp foster home, house trained, crate trained, loves children and the foster has cats. No other dogs recommended (some evidence that Mazel likes small dogs, but not big dogs). All he needs is a forever home, because his broken mandible is healed. He is of perfect weight, is heartworm free and totally vetted.

The Beginning: When you see a dog that is hurt and starving, what do you do? Winslow, a Good Samaritan stopped. Called Melisa, a friend, for help. Melisa contacted us. We took it to the next level and he was saved, his broken jaw was fixed.

HISTORY:
❖ 9/4/13: Found dog, Mazel appears to have a broken or lock jaw and is skeletal skinny, perhaps from not being able to eat. He is so starved he had trouble keeping food down. He is dehydrated. He is receiving some TLC tonight to rid him of fleas and being fed minute amounts of food and water. He will be at the Nash County Animal Hospital in Nashville, NC

Did you know that Mazel means LUCK? He was lucky to have been found. HOPE ~ That is what we wish for him. Hope that he recovers 100%, hope that he will find a forever loving home.

❖ 9/5/13: From the finder: He did great last night very sweet. Held water down, Slept well in a crate, no accidents. Riding in car fine, knows "sit".

VET Report (Dr. Childress): Heartworm and tick disease negative. They will do x-rays of the jaw in the morning (has to be sedated). Dr. C. believes it to be broken towards the front and she may be able to wire it. He can close his mouth, but it appears to pain him when he does. He does have lots of marks as if he was abused but very likely a bait dog. He is young, probably less than 1 year. He is small! He is eating liquefied food and drinking. He apparently had drank enough, not dehydrated. He has coccida and hooks, being treated. Plus receiving antibiotics, pain and anti-inflammatory meds.

Melisa says he has the BEST personality! She went at lunchtime to meet him and to do the photos. Says he appears to be dog friendly and not even food aggressive!
BTW... he is currently 31 pounds and should be at least 50 pounds.

❖ 9/6/13: BAD NEWS. ~ It appears likely that someone KICKED Mazel!!! X-Rays show that Mazel's jaw is broken higher than expected. Dr. C called me to see if we should PTS or send him to a orthopedic surgical specialist, since they cannot perform that complicated of a surgery at their hospital. The risks are too great of the jaw fusing. If that happened, he couldn't eat/drink. Then the only solution would be rebreaking and trying again or PTS. I talked to Melisa, who has offered to do a temp foster during recovery, if needed. You see, he may have to have a feeding tube for awhile after surgery. The surgeon may affix his jaw so he cannot eat/drink while it heals! So... although it will be VERY costly (trying to get some ballpark quotes), we cannot PTS when he has a chance of a quality life. We MUST try.

Since he was sedated, we went on ahead with his neuter surgery and getting him the rest of his immunizations, etc.

We want to THANK YOU, to everyone who donated, because without you... this dog would have automatically been PTS, even though everyone says he is a good dog, a young dog and a sweet dog. WE are the SOLUTION! We can't do it without you!

❖ 9/9/13: Mazel was feeling pretty good today when Jodie, our photographer, took his photos at Nash Co Animal Hospital. He wanted to tell everyone thank you for donating toward his fractured mandible surgery. He will be transported tomorrow morning to Wilson Veterinary Hospital for surgery.

❖ 9/10/13: Mazel is FINE!! The surgery went well. The break only involved his lower jaw, which was able to be repaired without having the mouth wired shut! So... NO feeding tube which is EXCELLENT news. He is already eating his very soft food! He will be picked up tomorrow afternoon and go into foster care! THANKS for all your help!

We would like to thank Joliet Bandit Productions for their continued support and help in getting the word out about the animals in need, especially the ones in the high kill shelters.

10/09/2013

We will be back around soon and start posting again of animals in need, and remember if you know of any that need help that we don't know about don't be shy post them on here!! Remember the more exposure they get the more likely we are to be able to find a furever home or a rescue to give them a new life.

Soon Bonky's Friends should be moving to Indiana, and once there we will be in search of some land to open up our brand new Bonky's Friends Animal Rescue. We know it will be small to begin with, but with time and patience it will grow and hopefully become a great rescue and we can work with some great people we have already met along the way of this journey.
