Heads up in Marion. We had a case of toxoplasmosis come into the clinic this summer in a cat that was adopted as a stray in town. And it seems like the summer there’s a lot of litters of stray kittens being born and people report kittens not surviving and this could possibly be an underlying cause. This is a good reminder to us to keep our indoor cats inside and be sure you’re washing your hands or wearing gloves when you’re cleaning your litter box.

Of the diseases people can get from cats (zoonoses), Toxoplasmosis is the most well-known. However, there’s a huge amount of misunderstanding about this disease and the role cats play in causing human disease.
