Sharing an update on EHV-1 that was issued on another site:
There has been a confirmed case of EHV-1 with the neurological strain at Legacy Equestrian in Milstadt, Illinois. Sadly, the affected horse has passed.
My heart goes out to the owner of the horse!! Any loss is devastating, but especially one like this!! I would also like to extend my deepest sympathies to the staff and all the boarders at Legacy. This is an incredibly difficult situation and emotionally challenging on everyone involved.
Legacy Equestrian has released an official statement and is fully quarantining their barn and implementing all recommended biosecurity and biohazard protocols. I appreciate their transparency and responsible action during such a challenging time.
I ask that you pray with me for everyone involved… for comfort, strength, and protection for their horses.
I also want to gently remind everyone that neurological EHV-1 cases are often deadly. This is not something to take lightly. Awareness, caution, and prevention are critical right now.
Recommended precautions and protocols
• Avoid all unnecessary travel for horses for the next 30 days
• Do not trailer in or out of barns
• No horse shows, clinics, lessons, or shared events
• Do not share equipment, tack, buckets, or grooming tools
• Wash hands thoroughly and often
• Change clothes and disinfect boots between barns
• Monitor horses closely and take temperatures daily
• Isolate any horse showing fever or neurological symptoms and contact your veterinarian immediately
Out of an abundance of caution, I strongly encourage no traveling for the next 30 days, even if your barn has not been affected.
Please take this seriously and help protect our horses and our community. 🤍🐴
