โŒโŒ๐Ÿšจ๐ŸšจIN NEEDS OF DONATIONS ๐Ÿšจ๐ŸšจโŒโŒ
PLEASE HELP
I always promised full transparency, and here I am asking for help to cover our basic costs/ bills.

Our animal rescue is in dire need of donations ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”

Unfortunately in the last 6-8 weeks we have only had 2 adoptions and keep in mind we have over 100 dogs in our rescue ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜ญ a big portion of our bills/ costs is covered by our adoption fees. No adoption means shortage of funds.

Toward the end of 2024 adoption had picked up and it seemed like the pandemic animal crisis was getting better, but once the LA fires happened it all started over. People rushed to shelters and cleared the shelters hoping to open space for pets affected by fires. What the public did not know was that local rescues like ours got more influx of animals than the shelters. We are still housing around 30 dogs affected by the fires with 23 families wanting to relinquish their dogs.

We have 4 dogs in boarding, senior/ hospice dogs that are on medications all year around, dogs in training, dogs on prescription/ special food, etc. I also need to order vaccines which will cost around $1000.

These are the general costs that we have to pay for weekly on top of any medical cares, surgery, etc.

With the drop in adoption in the last 4 months we have been struggling covering our general costs of operation.

Please donate, share and tag. If you want to help us with fundraising ideas and/ or increase adoption ideas please reach out. Even posting few of our dogs on your social media or your local nextdoor can help with adoption. We have frenchies, and other designer dogs/ puppies with no good applications ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•Meet Jelly Bean ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•
This cutie is 4 months old female chi ready for adoption.
We rescued her a month ago from Harbor shelter with severe parvo. Thankfully she did fully recover. She has been spayed, microchipped and vaccinated.
Per her foster, Jelly Bean is very friendly with other dogs and kids. She is a sweet non barker dog and does best with another playmate at home.
If interested in adopting her fill out an application on our website loemrescue.org

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸšจCOCO/SNOWY NEEDS DONATIONS ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿšจ
It's unbelievable that our last and only post for Coco raised $0 in medical donations. We rescued Coco as good sam and he has been at the hospital for 6 days and counting. He had $0 donations and we raised $0.
We this pace I do not see our rescue being around much longer.
Please donate toward his medical care so we can continue getting him the care he needs.

Me when someone emails to ask if a 15+ years old dog is potty trained ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜‚

I think it's safe to say every 15+ years old senior dog will have accidents. But that does not even matter. Our rescue has a thing against "potty trained". Not a single dog that we have for adoption is listed as potty trained on their profiles. One of the reasons senior dogs are dumped at the shelter is bc they start having accidents.
We dont adopt out to people who "not potty trained"is an issue for them. All our dogs are adopted out as not potty trained.

๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿพ๐ŸพMEET PRINCE, NEED ADOPTION๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’•

Price is a 2 years old male spaniel/ Long hair chi mix, 11 lbs.
Prince is the sweetest cutest little dog. We rescued him from Riverside shelter a month ago with a broken pelvic from euthanasia list.

Prince has been on a strict crate rest at his foster home. He will need 2 more weeks of crate rest. We thought this is a perfect time for him to go to a new home. This will give 2 week for him and other pets to get used to each other as well as enough time for potential adopter to figure if its a right match.

If interested in adopting him fill out an application on our website loemredcue.org

Update on Buster โค๏ธโค๏ธ
Rescued from East valley animal shelter this beautiful 12+ years old grandpa is decompressing at his foster home. Buster went to vet from the shelter and had his vet visit. Usually we hospitalize (keep at vet clinic) senior dogs that have respiratory infections because the vet can keep an eye on them and start aggressive treatment if necessary to prevent pneumonia. However, because he was very depressed and did not like shelter/ hospital environment his foster took him home.

Buster had xrays due to his heart murmur and respiratory infection. He also had senior blood work. Everything looked normal and a week later when he was recovered he had dental cleaning. They extracted 5 teeth.

We are starting Buster on anti inflammatory meds as the foster believes he has mobility issues. He also has a potential adopter. We are waiting to see how he feels once in the rescue for a month or two.

We do adopt out hospice dogs but we are waiting to see how much improvement he may or may not have.

Please stop dumping your senior dogs at the shelter ๐Ÿ’”

For one apparently I have neighbors who think I neglect dogs because of the shape some of these seniors are when we rescue them ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜ซ (as if I starve them, give them dementia, neglect to euthanize before they get to horrible shapes, not shave them to get severely matted, etc). But most importantly they end up confused and with a broken heart ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”

Please stop ๐Ÿซค๐Ÿ’” They dont deserve this๐Ÿ’”

There are some of us who are willing to give up a decade of our life to have few more years with our dogs, and we have those who throw their fur baby out like a trash bc they are old now. ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”

Update and Mini and her pups:
Her foster sent us brand new pics from Mini and her puppies today ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

Mini is around 2 years old, 12 lbs. Her puppies are 6 weeks old. We have no idea what the dad was but they all look like Mini as far as color goes.

There are 2 boys and 2 girls. The tiny one at last picture was born premature, we think. We had to bottle feed him and help a bit but other than being so tiny he seems to be fine.

They will be ready for adoption at age of 8-10 weeks. Depends on when the mom is done with them.

We are taking applications for them if anyone is interested. Sadly it has come to our attention that many dog hoarders are looking to adopt Mini or one of her puppies when they are ready ๐Ÿ˜ซ we have had more than 20-30 ppl keep reaching out and when we looked into it majority had too many dogs (over the city/ county limits). Apparently Mini is a somewhat rare. She is a Fawn Min Pin, per her stalkers lol

This is how our adoption process goes:

We do a complete application process. Its starts with adoption application, followed by a detailed background check that we do (more like stalking to make sure there are no red flags on potential adopters). If everything looks good then we do a phone interview and then home check. At this point if everything is good you are approved to adopt from us so we schedule a meet and greet. Our adoption contract is written by attorneys. You cannot rehome our dogs, nor can deny updates if we ask for it. We can take legal actions if we think the dog has been rehomed or we are worried about the dog's well being and ask for an update. All our dogs have to come back to our rescue if adopter does not want the dog anymore. Even if the dog is going to immediate family after few years this still has to go through us. It does not matter the age or condition of the dog. They have to come back to us. If you think about adopting a dog from us for a friend and family be aware that in our contract it is stated that you are going to face legal actions. We go over the contract verbally and you sign the written contract.

Update on Bonnie now known as Mina ๐Ÿ’•

We rescued this cutie pie from OC shelter on 2/20 and she had to have an emergency surgery the next morning because her huge mass was bursting. After weeks of up and downs with the incision and stitches (the opening was from abdominal region all the way to her elbow, and the armpit stitches were keep opening) unfortunately we notice she has a small mammary mass on the lowest left mammary gland.
After going back and forth trying to figure out our next course of action we have a plan.

She is scheduled to have mass removal and to get spayed on 4/7. She will need xrays a day or 2 before to make sure the cancer has not been spread to her lungs. Sadly if there are any masses in her ling she does not qualify for mass removal surgery anymore ๐Ÿ’”

Now all of this said we are not aware that she has any active cancer. Per our vet and the pathology report the entire cancer cells were removed, but with her cancer type being so aggressive it may or may not come back/ spread fast.

Please keep her in your thoughts/ prayers. You never know. We have seen miracles/ unprecedented outcomes with our cancer dogs in the past.

We have 2 senior dogs in our rescue that had aggressive type of cancers which both time we were told not to adopt the dogs with the surgeons.

Betsy was 10+ at the time of mammary mass removal and her cancer was aggressive type. Pathology report could not confirm the entire mass cells were removed but the vet believed the mass was completely removed. However, he also believed around 4 months her cancer will be back due to the nature of the type of cancer. It's 2-2.5 years passed and Betsy is still cancer free โค๏ธ

Titan was 15+ when we rescued him 2.5-3 years ago. His cancer was aggressive and spread to his testicle. The mass was on his thigh and the surgeon did not believe the entire mass was removed. She gave the cancer 2-4 months to come back but Titan is still cancer free and healthy at 17/18+ years old โค๏ธ

So yes we are optimistic for Mina ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸšจURGENTLY IN NEED OF TRANSPORTER ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿšจ
Tomorrow 3/25. From Van Nuys to West LA. Pick up 2:30-3:30 pm. Paid transport

10 small dogs leaving spay/ neuter clinic. 6 small carriers. Dog will be ready in carriers. Just need to be picked up.

I was supposed to pock up the dogs myself, but I just learn the substitute professor cant cover my class ๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ญ

Appointments cant be canceled. We are hoping someone can help.

Please donate if you can toward the spay/ neuters, vaccinations, and microchips. Half of the dogs are not our rescueโ€™s dogs. We occasionally spay/ neuter, vaccinate and chip for the public especially those who cant cover cost. We do believe the only way to stop the over population and contagious diseases is by spay/ neuter and vaccinations.

This is so true and sad ๐Ÿ’”
Lately we have been saying no to shelters when they reach out for the frenchie in need.

We currently have 2 perfect Frenchies we rescued at the end of Jan and early Feb with 0 applications. Both are purbred, well behaved, no behavioral issues, good with dogs/ cats/ kids, also very beautiful, but they have 0 applications ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”

Enzo is a black and white, 2 years old boy and Kiwi is 4-5 brindle black female. Both had eye surgery, dental, spay/ neutered, vaccinated and microchip. They have been waiting for their furever home with no applications ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”

They both were dumped in Downey, SEAACA shelter 10 days apart, and both with a busted right eye.
I'm still wondering if they were abused by the same person ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”
The point is we are the one allowing this happen. 2 years ago rescues were trying to educate the public saying Frienchis will be the new chihuahuas and no one listened ๐Ÿ’”

Be a decent human being. Stop shopping. If you dont want a rescue then postpone buying a dog. Do it for humanity. There needs to be a slowdown in breeding. The only way that would happen is if you stop buying

Please read:
I never post videos like this. I just feel its wrong to show/ share a misery a dog is going through.

I am sharing this video now to show what I mean when I say moderate to severe dementia. My recent post about my disagreement with our vets regarding quality of life and moderate to severe dementia has brought up some ANNOYING comments.

These videos are my first dog rescued with serious dementia case, and I dont even consider this severe. This is moderate but the dog is still suffering imo. We had no idea she had dementia prior to rescue. She even got full medical care including anesthesia then went to foster.

The next day foster told me the dog is suffering so I took her to my home for observation.
Please watch both videos. The first video shows what she did all day. She would also start panting and running around terrified. She did have very little moments that she would snap out of the dementia.

The second video she is sitting on her butt and still circling. Her leg muscles got so sore that she could not walk anymore, but she was still circling.
Now our vet didn't want to euthanize her bc she was eating.

Now I dont know where the miscommunication is? Do people think when I say moderate to severe dementia I mean a dog who walks around at nights or circles and get stuck in corners here and there? Like some mild symptoms?
Or do people really think a dog suffering like this is okay??

You know what's worse than letting a dog suffer like this? To shove this dog into a crate or a playpen.

Yesterday, first I was told dementia does not exist in dogs (wrong!!!). Then I was told maybe I dont have good fosters for hospice dogs (wrong!!! We have bunch of hospice dogs).

Then I was told there are hospice rescues with experienced fosters who know how to deal with this. Then I was told dogs like this need to be in a crate or playpen!! Are we serious? Is it hard to throw a dog in a crate or playpen in the spare room? This is not about hard or easy!! This is about quality of life and a dog suffering.

Is it a competition on who can keep a dog alive longer?

If this is what rescue is I dont want to rescue anymore. This does not fit my morals.

Rescue is not easy especially rescuing senior dogs.
And when it rains it pours.
We lost Howard last night ๐Ÿ’” I (Sara, the president) was at the emergency hospital passed midnight. In the last few days, he was showing severe distress with his dementia. It was very bad. I dont know if itโ€™s me or our vets, but I have problems with moderate to severe dementia. Its real suffering imo. A dog that tries to hide in corners and squeezes themselves under objects while panting nonstop and are terrified has no quality of life. Some even cry not stop. I dont care if they are eating or not. Dogs with severe dementia can hurt themselves, and Howard did hurt himself last night ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”
I would never let my dogs get to this point of suffering. I would never ever do this to my dogs and moving forward I will stop listening to the vets if I think a dog is suffering with severe dementia symptoms. The dogs deserve to leave this world with dignity ๐Ÿ˜ž I just always feel the vets should make the decision with our rescue dogs. It's a very difficult decision to pts a dog. It feels like you are taking a life ๐Ÿ’”
I dont know what is this โ€œif a dog is eating/ drinking, the dog is fineโ€ they teach in veterinary school, but I absolutely disagree with it.
Anyways as Im trying to grieve the loss of Howard we just learned Bonnie has a new mammary mass growing ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”
I was expecting her cancer to come back fast, but honestly not this fast ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ Some may know and some may not but when her mass was removed and sent to the pathology the result came back as osteosarcoma and chondroblastic sarcoma. Very nasty and aggressive cancers ๐Ÿ’”
I am devastated. This is difficult. Itโ€™s too much.
I feel like I dont want to rescue another senior dog ever again.. ๐Ÿ’”
I know both Howard and Bonnie almost look the same, but the video is Howard before we put him to sleep ๐Ÿ’” and the pictures are Bonnie. You can see her mass is at the lower left mammary glad ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’” The last picture with the huge mass is when we rescued her less than a month ago before the emergency surgery.

Please read ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿšจ
Let's educate ourselves and the public. I was at the vet this morning and saw a couple bring a frenchie that they found in the streets.
I told them please scan the dog as it may have an owner looking for him. The first thing they said was "the dog looks neglected". I told them you never know if someone stole this dog and it has an owner looking for him for a long time or not.

Please always look for the dog's owner. Dont just keep a dog you find because you think it was neglected or it will die at the shelter.

We always recommend found dogs to go to the shelter. You can always request to be the first to adopt if owner does not come forward. Every single dog we find we take to the shelter and we always recommend the public to do the same.

Even when a dog is hit by a car and in critical condition we take the dog to the shelter and then take the dog to hospital as a good sam. It is really not fair to a possible owner to just keep a dog and call it rescue. Thats stealing and not rescue.

Here is an example of an owner looking for her dog for 2 YEARS... Article was published by today.

Adoption update on Tipsy (Bambi/ Olivia) ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•
Another adoption announcement that we missed ๐Ÿคซ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Thanks to her amazing family to going above and beyond to make sure her adoption/ transition was smooth and easy on her.
Tipsyโ€™s family live in Arizona and their plan was that if their application was approved her dad picks her up few days later after his work meeting in CA. But once they learned Tipsy may be little shy and may get stressed driving alone with the dad (we didnt know how she was with me ) her amazing mom who is a vet took time off from her busy schedule to fly down here and drive home with her and her husband โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Tipsy was another dog with some level of behavioral/ skittishness that we rescued. I remember at the South LA shelter both Cathy and I were hesitant to pick her up ๐Ÿ˜… that 5 lbs had both of us shivering lol joke ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ But seriously she was growling and not having it.

This pretty girl opened up and relaxed to us pretty quickly but I believed she needed a home with more awareness and less children as she was very sensitive. For some reason she got application after application all with multiple young children at home. Some were persistent and keep calling/ emailing. Someone even F bombed me for telling her sorry no kids ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜ซ.
Those who know me know Im very picky in adopting our dogs out. I try to find the best home for them not just a home. But this was one of those cases that I kept asking myself am I doing it wrong? Am I being too difficult? Why was it that she had all these applications and I cant find the right fit home?
Well one more time I proved myself the wait was needed and worth it โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Per her family: Hereโ€™s an update on Tipsy, previously Bambi! In 5 short months she has become the boss of our house! Her best buddy is our black lab, Walkerโ€ฆ they play every day and she naps right by his side. We are so lucky to have her apart of our family โค๏ธโ€

We want to thank her beautiful family to opening up their home and heart to this little girl who did need a little extra work โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Another adoption announcement we missed ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝ
Our beautiful Pixie now known as Cookie was adopted few months ago ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•
Pixie was a major medical dog at San Jacinto shelter that we rescued. This poor baby was tiny (only 7 lbs), and she was in the shelter for 2-3 weeks and no rescue interest ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”
Unfortunately not many rescues take dogs that try to bite and have behavioral issues ๐Ÿซค
Cookie had an amputation and she slowly learned how to socialize with people and other pets.
We cant thank her amazing mom enough for opening her heart and home to a dog that needs a little more work with.
Without the adopters who are willing to work with dogs with a little behavioral issues we will never be able to save and rehabilitate so many of them โค๏ธโค๏ธ
