Reina has been doing very well and continues to excel every day she is worked. We haven’t shared many updates lately because her program currently involves a lot of repetition and foundational exercises focused on conditioning and strengthening her for the future. We’ll be sure to post again as we begin introducing new things.

Reina Update 🐴

With all the cold weather and holidays, we had a little delay in our Reina & Cam updates—but we’re back!

The other day, after some groundwork exercises, Reina was introduced to the tarp. In this clip, you’ll see Cam giving her the time and space to explore it on her own terms. When introducing something new to a horse, it’s important to allow them to be curious and investigate rather than feel pressured.

This approach builds confidence, trust, and a willing mindset—qualities that will carry over into everything she does down the road. We’re proud of how thoughtfully Reina is progressing.

🌟 Cam & Reina – Day 11 🌟

Reina did great getting saddled today and stood quietly tied while Cam worked Gordi. Once Gordi’s session was finished, Cam side passed over and ponied Reina along behind them.

Ponying young c**ts is a great way to help them get comfortable seeing a person above them while also learning to be led and travel forward with purpose. Cam let Reina follow along at her own pace, then had Gordi side pass over so he could rub her on both sides of the neck start building her confidence.

She handled everything like a pro today. Stay tuned for more as on her progress!

🌟Cam & Reina – Day 10🌟

A lot of people have been saying they can’t believe how good Reina has been—and while she has been relatively easy, she had her moment today.

She’d had a couple of days off and was feeling fresh in the cold weather, so when Cam asked her to go to work, she got a little quick and reactive. But notice how when she hits the end of her line allowance, Cam doesn’t get upset. He simply lets her express herself without feeding into the tantrum.

Think of it like a toddler who doesn’t want to put their clothes on that morning. They can throw the fit, but that doesn’t mean you engage with it. They still have to put their clothes on if they want to go play in the snow. So Cam allows her to have her feelings, but he stays focused on the good efforts she is making.

We recently had Dalton Darnell here for a clinic, and something he said fits this moment perfectly:
“Focus on the good and ignore the bad. The good becomes greater and the bad becomes lesser.”

With young horses, if you don’t engage with the bad behavior and instead put your energy into the try—the lick, the settle, the small effort—they start craving that reward. They start hunting for the release rather than trying to avoid pressure.

Today was a reminder that progress isn’t about never having a setback. It’s about how you handle it. And Reina ended the session better than she started, which is all we can ask for.

🌟 Cam & Reina - First Time Seeing A Rope

Cam has thoughtfully started to expose Reina to the rope. While Cam worked on his loops, Reina was turned loose in the arena wearing her saddle. This allowed her to get comfortable with both the feel of the saddle and the sounds of the rope as it was swung and landed on the practice dummy.

By giving Reina the freedom to watch from a distance she feels comfortable with, she’s able to learn without feeling pressured or forced into the situation. This kind of exposure builds confidence and understanding, setting her up for long-term success as a ranch horse.

Stay tuned for more as her education continues!

🌟Cam & Reina – Day 9🌟

The cinch is on, and we’re off to the races! Today Cam saddled Reina and added movement to the mix, marking an important step forward in her training.

You’ll see Cam ask Reina to move out in whatever way makes sense to her. When she tries to turn away and point her face elsewhere, he applies pressure to make that option uncomfortable. As she searches for the right answer and offers to face up toward him, Cam immediately releases the pressure. When she turns toward him and stops, she’s allowed to fully rest.

The goal is for Reina to learn that facing Cam is the most comfortable place to be. Through this process, he’s teaching her to look to him for guidance when things feel new or uncomfortable—a principle that will carry with her throughout the rest of her training.

Stay tuned for their next update!

After starting the day with some lunging, Cam introduced the saddle to Reina for the first time. She took it all in stride, stayed relaxed, and kept trying just like she has each day. Today marked a big milestone — Reina is officially on her way to becoming a saddle horse!

Every session builds more confidence, and it’s exciting to see her progress step by step. Stay tuned for what’s next!

🌟Cam & Reina - Day 7🌟

Building off the previous days of introducing the saddle pad and ba****ck pad, Cam added movement into the equation today. Reina was put on a long lunge line and asked to move out wearing the ba****ck pad. The goal was for her to learn that the pressure around her belly stays with her while she moves, and to become comfortable with that pressure at all gaits.

You’ll see Reina reach the end of the line Cam allowed out where she tosses her head and stops. This moment is her figuring out what the longer line means. Up to this point, she had only been on a lead line, so getting this far away from Cam felt like freedom to go where she wanted. Cam bumps her head toward him and steps into her drive line, using light pressure with the end of the rope to encourage her forward. As soon as she steps out, he steps back toward her shoulder, releasing the pressure and getting out of her drive line.

Once Reina began to settle and relax, Cam asked her to stop and stand. He then revisited a concept she already knows—the rope around her belly—this time adding a second point of pressure with the ba****ck pad cinch. Because all of our horses are ridden with a rear cinch, it’s important these steps are introduced early so a rear cinch is never a surprise. Cam bumps her head toward him so that if she were to move away from the pressure, her hips would not swing toward him. You’ll see Reina turn her head and quietly watch what he’s doing. Cam slightly increases the pressure, then releases completely the moment she relaxes.

This process was repeated several times between lunging and standing to make sure Reina fully understood both before wrapping up for the day.

Stay tuned!

🌟Cam & Reina – Day 6🐮

Today was a full day of cattle lessons, which made it the perfect opportunity to give Reina her very first introduction to cows. Before the first lesson started, Cam turned her loose out in the arena and you can see in the video that she’s a little hesitant and watchy at first.

But once she figures out that she can move them, her confidence starts to shine. She loosens up, follows behind them, and even gets a little playful as she learns what she can do. It’s been so rewarding to watch her curiosity turn into confidence over this past week.

We’re loving every step of her progress, and we hope you’re enjoying following along. Stay tuned for more!

🌟Reina & Cam – Day 5🌟

Today, Cam built on the groundwork from yesterday’s lunging and rope-around-the-belly exercise by introducing Reina to both the saddle pad and the ba****ck pad. He kept her untied during the process so that if she felt unsure and needed to move, she could — allowing him to stay with her and help her find the release the moment she stood still.

But thanks to all the thoughtful preparation Cam has done up to this point, the whole session was calm and uneventful in the best way. Reina was full of yawns and releases — exactly what we love to see in a young horse learning something new. Those signs tell us she’s relaxed, processing, and not feeling tense or bothered by the experience.

Another solid step forward for this sweet filly on her journey to becoming a confident ranch horse!
