🥀ROSIE — 4-YEAR-OLD RED & WHITE FEMALE BASENJI LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME
I am looking for the right home for Rosie, a beautiful 4-year-old red and white Basenji currently living in Brooklyn Heights, NYC. I am her breeder and we will either be finding her the right placement or she will be coming home to live with me.
This is a no-fault rehoming situation due to an unexpected and significant change in her family’s circumstances. Rosie has been deeply loved and raised in a wonderful home. She currently lives with a toddler and has been thoroughly immersed in urban life — she goes to brunch, camping, jiu-jitsu classes with her owner, dog parks and everywhere else her person goes.
And Rosie doesn’t just tolerate city life — she thrives in the middle of it. The noise, traffic, crowds, density and constant activity of New York City don’t faze her. She is one of those rare Basenjis who truly has the constitution for urban living.
In fact, I consider Rosie something of a unicorn: a Basenji who could potentially thrive both as an urban companion AND as a competitive performance dog.
She is incredibly smart, athletic and eager to learn. She loves tricks, is fast and would be an exciting prospect for agility, rally, trick dog, Fast CAT, lure coursing or other performance activities.
She also has an unusually strong connection with her handler. At the dog park, Rosie can be verbally called off while actively playing with other dogs and responds to verbal commands even when excited or in high drive. And, in true unicorn fashion, she is one of the few Basenjis I know who will actually fetch a ball, bring it back and put it at her owner’s feet.
She has:
• Excellent temperament
• No history of aggression or biting toward humans or dogs
• Lives successfully with a toddler
• Plays freely with other dogs
• Thrives in a busy NYC environment
• Smart, athletic and highly engaged with her person
• Excellent potential for performance work
• Annual veterinary exam completed June 2026
• Teeth professionally scaled
• Full medical records available
A note to my fellow Basenji breeders: If you have wonderful prospective homes that don’t meet a fenced-in-yard requirement, please consider referring them to me. Rosie is exactly the kind of Basenji who demonstrates that the right dog can have an extraordinary life in an urban home without a traditional fenced yard.
