Rainey’s first ride post groundwork was… uneventful. You may say well that’s not very exciting. Exactly, I don’t want an exciting first ride on a 16.3 racehorse. Thanks, I’m good 😅

What you can fix on the ground takes twice as long to fix under saddle. So I go slow on the ground, taking my time. And then I can speed run under saddle. Because the horse trusts me, and she will try her hardest just like she did today. By now she knows I’m not going to ask her to do something that would hurt her. Trying her hardest is all I ever ask for.

We didn’t have a textbook perfect ride. She desperately needs to learn to turn that big butt of hers and she couldn’t walk in a line if you pointed a gun to her head. But she listened, she followed my lead and she learned fast. That’s an exciting ride in my eyes.

Super excited to be back for a second summer with Poncho and Indy! Last year we did halter breaking, 1yo groundwork, leading, trailering and introduced tying. This summer we are building on that groundwork, lots of desensitizing, and prepping to pack behind during hunting season.

Started off lesson one after a full groundwork refresh with desensitizing Indy to jackets and zippers.

So so proud of Lily’s progress! A few weeks ago you couldn’t ride her on a loose rein, and trail riding in the back? That led to rearing, stamping her feet, and head tossing. She only knew running down the trail and was upset if anything got in her way. Now just 6 rides and some groundwork later, she is calm and quiet. This was her first trial ride post rides and she did excellent! Rode in the front and back with a solid walk in a long rein. Allowed the horse in front of her to pass her form the back to the front, stomp on the trail, and lead going home with it throwing a fit. Her head tossing is gone and she has calmed down a lot, she isn’t perfect, but she is definitely well on her way with trail training!

Poncho’s first time being introduced to the plastic bag!! I’m so proud of how well he did. He’s still really nervous about me and people in general, but so far coming along really well. Excited to keep working with the baby and see his progress

So proud of little Indy’s progress! 1 year old mule filly that now halters, clips, leads, loads on the trailer, is well desensitized, yields to pressure and stands tied.

It was such a pleasure to work with her!
