Litter Robot acclimation period- Day 7:
I mean…. Technically day 7. The reality is we set it up last Monday but left their old boxes in place for the first 4 days. You know… figured we’d give them time to adjust.
Ivy needed zero warm up period. She’s a diva, and immediately fell in love with the idea of her “business” magically disappearing. In fact, I’m pretty sure I caught a couple side eye glares, probably for making her wait so long to get one. The clear vibe was “WTF, Mom. You have a bidet, but I had to look at my own $hit for more than 3 minutes?!?”. Anyway, she was clearly annoyed by the delay. And for the record, I DO have a bidet, and cannot recommend it highly enough. We love it so much, we got one for the cabin too. But I digress…
Anyway, it was obvious that more than one cat was using this magic new luxury p**p box, but it wasn’t totaly clear who. Even though it records the weight of the cat using the box, Gus & Mia are close enough to be tricky AND they both behaved as if they were feral when I tried to weigh them, so I could input their weights into the Robot app. So the problem is almost certainly inaccurate data on my end, not the Bot. Anyway, at least one of them was also using the old litterboxes. So… hard to say.
THEN, on Friday, we went to the cabin. I figured this was a great time to go “all in”. They either figure it out or they don’t, right? Worst case scenario is a mess on the catio, which is all tile. No biggie. So, we moved the Robot out there, put them all in their favorite spot for the weekend (with plexiglass installed, a heater, and a never ending supply of food & water- they were good to go), and let fate take its course.
The app notifications went off regularly throughout the weekend, telling me that the cats were using the box, it was self cleaning as it should, and the “fill level” of the collection drawer. Yay! All seemed to be going perfectly, although, of course I could not actually SEE what was going on.
We got home today. It appears that TWO of the cats used the box perfectly. ONE decided to p**p in the bottom (enclosed) level of the cat tree. Because there’s always a jerk in the bunch. I strongly suspect Gus is the culprit. Mostly because he’s a total wimp, and the most likely to be scared of the magic p**p box. But he also likes to sleep in that spot, so who knows, could be Mia.
Either way, we’re going to find out by process of elimination.
Gus is out there in “solitary confinement” for now. Shouldn’t take long to sort out if he’s the problem or not. Then we’ll add the girls back in slowly, and make sure there are no other problems.
But hey…. 2 out of 3 taking to the p**p Robot immediately is pretty darn good!
And the even BETTER news is that from now on, all of our kittens will go to their new homes trained on BOTH standard litter boxes and auto-scoopers, so YOU won’t have to go through this training process at all. 🙂🙃🙂
Stay tuned…
PS. Ivy is currently pi**ed because Gus has exclusive access to the magic p**p box. I suspect we’re going to end up with 3 of these things. 🤦🏻♀️😂
