With the legalization of ma*****na in New York State, it is likely that we will be seeing an upsurge of ma*****na toxicity in our pets, especially our dogs.

We have seen a handful of dogs exhibiting signs of ma*****na ingestion over the past couple of year, so we figured that it was important to share information about it.

Be advised that we are not judging anyone for their recreational use of this drug, but we want to make sure that people are aware that dogs and cats can get really sick from ingesting or inhaling ma*****na. We often see these patients coming in with uncontrolled urine dribbling and drunken-like behavior.

Most of these patients just need supportive care, but others - depending on how much they ingested - are in danger of seizure activity and coma.

Please do your due diligence and keep ma*****na and other THC-containing edibles out of reach of your pets at all times. 🐾

The virtual component of the Paws4Potter "Making A Mark On K9 Cancer" dog walk starts TOMORROW, October 5th!!!

This two-week long event is filled with contests, social media challenges, and even a live Zoom event (date TBA)!

If you aren't located in northern NY or otherwise can't make it to our in-person dog walk on October 19th but are feeling left out and want to join in on the fun, then this is the event for you! ❤

Green = Go! We've got several states represented, including a few additional countries! Do you know someone in one of the "grey" states that would like to join in on the fun?

Mojo, you let Flash do anything to you. You were an amazing brother to everyone. I hope when Flash left me, he found you. That day still gives me PTSD. My one wish was that you didn't have a medical crisis and that you went peacefully. I do not wish my last moments with Flash on anyone. When working in rescue I always said they didn't live long so that we could love more. It is true in some ways, I wouldn't have the ones I have now if everyone lived forever. It doesn't change how much you miss them though.

Mojo was attacked 2x by a family dog. Despite testing, trainers, and behavior modification the end result was heartbreaking. Both were raised together as puppies.

Spencer was a cancer warrior too.

Spencer was named the official dog of the 126th Boston Marathon in 2022 and died of cancer in 2023.

We all need a reminder sometimes about the most common warning signs of cancer in pets.

1/3 of dogs and 1/4 of cats will develop cancer at some point in their lifetimes.

You can be your pet's hero by recognizing these symptoms EARLY and getting your pet into his/her veterinarian EARLY. ❤️

I miss this big guy.

Mojo visited me in a dream last night. He walked into the family room and put his head on me. We had to say goodbye to Neka yesterday, who also was in the dream. She didn't come to me though, she walked in behind Mojo and headed straight to the bedroom like she did every night. I am going to try to remember next time to not feel anxious to just embrace the visit.

May 31, 2019. Surgery was just around the corner. All of the tests done so far didn’t show any signs of cancer. We were scared, but hopeful.

When Mojo was battling cancer I wasn’t ready for a caliper. I just knew. Flash gets sebaceous cysts - lots of them. He had some removed a year ago and is getting more now. I’m going to keep an eye on them. When they first appear I have our vet aspirate them to make sure.
