This mare is tough and easily overwhelmed, her fear of people and objects coupled with low confidence stifles her curiosity. However, after months of consistent effort, she's finally engaging her mind and allowing herself to be curious. Even after her blowups sheβs finally settling back down and coming back to revisit the question instead of panic until I leave the pen. So, she's allowed to explore and even chew on things, entering my space without fear of reprimand. The goal is to foster a friendly, curious, and trusting horse, even if it takes time for her to realize she can be comfortable around us. It's better to allow her to explore and feel safe now, even if it means setting boundaries later, than to have a horse that remains shut down and fearful because she wasn't allowed to explore the idea of a positive relationship with us.
