Terminology Tuesday: Capturing 🐾

Ever notice your dog naturally doing something awesome—like lying down calmly or offering a sit? That’s a perfect moment to capture the behavior!

Capturing means marking (using your reward marker) and rewarding a behavior your dog does on their own, without prompting or luring. It’s all about timing and reinforcing what you love as it happens.

This may look like your dog laying down while your kids are playing on the other side of a baby gate or when you’re walking your newborn baby around.

The more you capture, the more your dog will repeat those great choices. So keep your treats handy and your eyes open—you never know when a great behavior will pop up!

Beginning April 1, 2025 we are implementing a minor adjustment to our pricing. 💸

Due to the expense of additional baggies required to clean up after certian individuals we will be charging a fee for any dog who walks while pooping and a video reciept will be provided to the owner upon pickup to justify the expense. 💩🚶‍♂️

Yes, you read that right! Dogs who prefer to stay still during their potty break? No extra charge, since thats just one bag per pile. However, those devious little walk-and-squatters will be billed for their advanced skills. 🏃‍♀️💨

Let your dogs sniff ❤️

A fun visual representation of what your dog sees (smells) every day. Look at how noisy it is and how many tracks there are intertwining. The different animals, people, and dogs movement in just one area. The snow lets us humans see the history of this area and what animals and people have passed through. A dog will smell this every day and know who and what animals have passed through. Smellavision!!!!

Dogs are incredible.

Imagine tracking and detection dogs needing to filter out all this noise and track a single scent down. Amazing!

You’d never know Zharia was the only dog of ours born in New England. Herja and Kratos have loved playing in the snow, while this is the look I get through the door the entire time she is outside.

Kratos and I just finished up our second obedience class with Richmond Dog Obedience Club - RDOC last night! He did amazing as always, and is such a wonderful, smart, confident, and handsome dog.

Puppy/basic obedience classes aren’t just for people who have never trained dogs before - they are awesome for learning new training techniques, gaining different perspectives, and of course, proper socialization for young dogs. Learning how to work around distractions, other people and other dogs is SO imperative for dogs to learn from a young age.

We are looking forward to our next class in January! 🥰
