The Perseids Are Coming — August 12–13! 🌠

Get ready, stargazers! On these nights, the Perseid meteor shower will peak, filling the sky with bright, fast-moving meteors — sometimes up to 100 an hour at the height of the show. These flashes of light are tiny bits of comet Swift-Tuttle burning up in Earth’s atmosphere at incredible speeds.

At its peak, you might spot up to 100 meteors every hour, each one a glowing streak born from ancient comet dust racing through our atmosphere at breathtaking speeds. No telescope required — just find a dark, open spot, get comfy, and let your eyes adjust to the night.

Want the best view? Escape the city lights, bring a blanket, and give yourself 20–30 minutes in the dark to truly take in the show. Whether you see a few or a sky full, the Perseids are proof that the cosmos still loves to surprise us.

🌝🌿 Watch for the full moon tonight! July's full moon is most commonly known as the Buck Moon. This name coincides with the season when buck deer begin to show growth of new antlers. Other names for the July full moon include Herb Moon, Mead Moon, Wyrt (medicinal herb) Moon, Raspberry Moon, Salmon Moon, Hay Moon and Thunder Moon. Across many cultures and time, the full moon was seen as the ideal time to harvest and preserve medicinal herbs, seeds for maximum vitality...and some time for a little LUNAcy, and dancing in the moonlight! Hoooowwwwwl!!!

Happy Summer Solstice!

Today marks the official start of astronomical summer in the Northern Hemisphere – and it’s the longest day of the year!

At 10:42 pm EDT (2:42 am GMT, June 21), the Sun travels its longest, highest arc across the sky all year for those north of the equator.

For centuries, cultures around the world have celebrated this moment from sunrise rituals at Stonehenge to dancing around maypoles in Sweden. It’s a time to honor the Sun, the Earth, and the turning of the seasons.

So what’s happening, exactly? The summer solstice occurs when Earth’s axial tilt leans most directly toward the Sun – about 23.5 degrees – placing the Sun directly overhead at the Tropic of Cancer. This tilt is also what gives us our seasons. Around this time, regions north of the Arctic Circle experience 24 hours of daylight, while the Southern Hemisphere begins its astronomical winter.

Wherever you are, take a moment to soak in the sunlight; it’s the most we’ll get all year!

During the June Gap, Please Don’t Leave Out Fruit for Bees — Here’s What They Really Need 🐝🌼
As a beekeeper, I want to gently remind everyone: please don’t leave fruit out for bees, especially during the June Gap—the brief but dangerous period between spring and summer blooms when nectar sources become scarce. While offering fruit might seem like a kind gesture, it often ferments quickly in the sun, developing harmful bacteria that bees can carry back to the hive. This contaminated food can spoil their stored honey and even threaten the health of the entire colony.
If you truly want to help bees during this critical time, the best thing you can do is offer clean, safe water. Place a shallow dish outside filled with fresh water, adding small stones or twigs so bees can land safely without drowning.
To go one step further, consider adding a pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt. This natural salt is rich in vital minerals that bees instinctively seek—minerals that help regulate the hive’s internal temperature (kept around 90°F), ensuring proper brood care and honey production.
Please avoid feeding bees sugar or honey directly. It may seem helpful, but it can disrupt their natural behavior, weaken their immune systems, and even spread disease.
Supporting bees doesn’t require sugar—it requires awareness.
Water. Flowers. Protection. That’s what they truly need.
And especially during the June Gap, your kindness can make all the difference. 🌿💛🐝
