I am so glad Wildcat Vet Services posted this. It is truly a horrible, painful experience. This is why I stress to clients and staff that there is NO PLAYTIME after a meal. Before, yes. Afterward it’s just gentle pets and unconditional TLC.
Let's talk about bloat. The symptoms you might see is a large (and rapidly growing belly) excessive salivating or retching, and feeling very uncomfortable or painful. This is a true emergency! If you don't get them to a vet quickly, they will not survive.
To prevent this - especially in big, deep chested dogs - is to exercise first, then feed them, or wait 4 hours after a meal before heavy exercise. Walks are fine. It typically occurs when a full stomach starts swinging from rapid movement and flips on itself.
