Quick update on Remi 💛
Remi is a senior we took in a couple of months ago. She arrived grossly overweight, with significant skin issues, severely matted, neglected, and covered in urine. It was clear she hadn’t been comfortable—or felt safe—for a very long time.
She has since settled into our home and has already lost a significant amount of weight. We’re moving slowly, helping her feel secure and respected. She has dry eye and isn’t thrilled about eye drops (she can be a little nippy), but we’re making steady progress together.
Remi has not liked being picked up. Early on, she would immediately become mouthy when handled. But the other night, I was able to gently pick her up to give her a bath—and instead of fear, I was met with affection. A small moment, but a huge one for her.
The first day she was with us, I was called in a panic to help get her out of the transporter’s car at the vet because she appeared extremely aggressive. Once inside, she did need to be sedated—but what she was, more than anything, was terrified. Fear, not aggression.
Remi is learning that hands can be kind. That care doesn’t have to hurt. That she’s finally safe.
She is why we rescue. 🐾
