A door left open, natural disasters, fires, car accidents, even loss of a guardian - tragic circumstances can happen in a moment’s time.
Over and over the importance of microchips and keeping the information current is stressed - the microchip is your pet’s identification card, their medical card and their hope of being reunited with you.
Their microchip information is vital to them - use it wisely. When completing their microchip information online include vital information including first and foremost your up to date contact information, but also medical concerns, their vet contact information and any other vital information you are able to fit into the notes/comments section. I add vital medical info with their name so when they are found, the finder/vet will know immediately upon scanning that they are in need of meds, etc. If the pet can’t be vaccinated/sedated for medical reasons, like heart disease, you would want a vet or shelter to know that.
A microchip is more than just a number, it is your pet’s link to you, their vet, and their medical needs to a person who finds them. It can save their lives.
If you have lost the number of their microchip, any vet can scan for the number. You can register the microchip for free on sites like 24PetWatch (regardless of what company the microchip originated from), so if you don’t update the information because your microchip company charges a yearly fee, register on one of the free sites - they are still searchable.
Please, please make sure the information is correct, up to date, and their vet’s info if possible - their life may depend on it.
This image is just to give you an idea of information to add, no ID like this will print from a microchip registry 😊
