Leia’s Story – Why It’s So Important to Check Your Shed
Three weeks ago, beautiful Leia went missing. Her family searched everywhere, they contacted all of their neighbours asking them to check their sheds and garages and contacted local vets and rescues – but there was no sign.
Yesterday, she was finally found. She was locked inside a garden shed. For three whole weeks, Leia didn’t have her normal access to food or water.
Cats are incredible survivors. Technically, a cat may survive two weeks or more without food but after three days without water their bodies will suffer. Beyond that, organ failure and death become a real risk. Leia’s survival is nothing short of a miracle. She has lost a third of her body weight and is very lucky to have been found
This is why we cannot stress enough: always check your sheds, garages and outbuildings if a cat goes missing. Even if you don’t think a cat could have gotten in, when asked please double check – a simple look could save a life. Better still, keep a bowl of water in your shed, even if you don’t own a cat!
**If your cat is ever found after being trapped like this, please DO NOT FEED THEM straight away. Their body won’t cope with sudden food or water, and it could do more harm than good. Instead, get them straight to a vet for careful treatment and rehydration.
Leia was one of the lucky ones. Many cats are not found in time. Please help us spread the word – your quick check could save a life
