We run a pet care business. So, naturally, our own dogs make pet care as challenging as possible πŸ˜…

Last week we packed up Orion and Stella and headed north for a few days to the Poconos and Adirondacks. We had a fantastic time, went on some incredible hikes, indulged in plenty of fresh mountain air and solitude, found some wonderful dog-friendly places along the way, and learned that bringing the dogs on vacation is… probably not our perfect solution either.

Stella is our nervous girl. She doesn’t do particularly well with boarding, so this time we thought: easy, we’ll just bring her with us!

Turns out a long car ride + an unfamiliar house + an entirely new routine isn’t exactly Stella’s idea of relaxation either πŸ˜‚

And then there’s Orion. Orion LOVES other dogs. He has helped us welcome countless dogs into our home. He runs around with daycare dogs in our backyard. He’s basically an unpaid Happy Howlers employee.

And yet Orion is also leash reactive outside our home.

Because dogs are complicated little creatures who don't always get the memo.

So next time? We might try having someone stay with them at home.

And honestly, the whole trip was a pretty good reminder of something we believe really strongly at Happy Howlers: 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 ππ¨πžπ¬π§β€™π­ π₯𝐨𝐨𝐀 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐭.

Some dogs thrive at a boarding facility. Some love staying in a sitter’s home. Some are happiest curled up on their own couch while someone comes to them. And some genuinely love packing up the car and coming along for the adventure.

There’s no gold star for choosing one over another. We don’t care which option sounds β€œright” on paper. We care about finding the one where 𝘺𝘰𝘢𝘳 pet feels safe, comfortable, and able to relax.

We’re still figuring that one out for our own two. πŸ’™

If you’re new around here, hiii, welcome! πŸ‘‹ We figured it was about time to properly re-introduce ourselves.

I’m Hannah, the founder of Happy Howlers Pet Services. Before starting Happy Howlers, I spent many years working in data analytics, but I’ve always been more of a β€œfind the dog at the party” person than a β€œmake small talk” person. For the longest time, my dream job was to somehow combine dogs and data. As it turns out, running a pet care business is a pretty great way to do both!

As the type of person who plans everything, color-codes calendars, and definitely has a spreadsheet for all of it, I naturally approached pet care the same way: thoughtfully, intentionally, and with a whole lot of attention to detail. The goal has never been to build the biggest pet care business. It’s been to create one where pets always feel safe, routines feel predictable, and pet parents never have to wonder if their best friend is okay.

Whether you’ve trusted us with your pets for years or you just stumbled across this little corner of the internet, we’re so glad you’re here. Stick around for happy dogs, the occasional cat (they insisted), behind-the-scenes moments, reels that probably took me way too long to edit, and plenty of the goofy pet moments that make life with them so much fun.
