A Holiday Heads-Up from Malibu Coast Animal Hospital!

We hope you and your furry friends are soaking up all the cozy holiday vibes. ❤️🐾 As we dive into the season of boarding, grooming, travel, and festive playdates, we’re seeing a big seasonal rise in kennel cough locally. Here’s what to know to keep every pup merry and healthy!

✨ What Kennel Cough Can Look Like:
• A dry, honking cough (like something stuck in the throat)
• Gagging or retching
• Watery eyes or runny nose
• Less pep or appetite

✨ Holiday Tips to Keep Your Pup Protected:
• Make sure their Bordetella vaccine is up to date
• Skip crowded dog parks, daycare, and busy boarding spots
• Keep distance from coughing pups
(Remember: Bordetella is only one bacteria that can lead to kennel cough. Because kennel cough can be caused be a variety of infectious agents, the Bordetella vaccine is great protection but does not provide full immunity.)

✨ If Your Pup Starts Coughing:
• Book an appointment ASAP so we can help ease symptoms
• Be considerate — avoid contact with other dogs
• If diagnosed, keep them away from pup friends for at least two weeks after starting meds

The good news? Kennel cough is common and usually clears up quickly with proper care. If you have questions, we’re just a phone call away. 💛
