When Jaspy's family brought him to EPCT, they thought they might be dealing with an ear infection. Earlier that evening, Jaspy had been acting lethargic, and while his owner was trying to flush his ears at home, he suddenly collapsed. What started as a concern over a possible ear issue quickly became a frightening emergency, sending his family straight to our hospital for answers.

During his exam, Dr. Garcia performed a point-of-care ultrasound and discovered a large abdominal mass. Our team immediately got to work stabilizing Jaspy and performing additional diagnostics to determine the best path forward.

The following evening, Jaspy underwent surgery to remove the mass with a splenectomy, along with a gastropexy to help prevent future complications. Thankfully, the procedure went beautifully, and so did his recovery.

Just a few days later, Jaspy was bright, comfortable, and ready to head home. In fact, he spent part of his recovery doing what he does best—howling for his dad and making sure everyone in the hospital knew he was ready for a reunion.

Stories like Jaspy's are a reminder that pets can't always tell us when something is wrong, but they often find ways to show us. Trusting your instincts and seeking care when something doesn't seem right can make all the difference. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

Plants can brighten your home or yard—but not all are safe for pets.

Many common plants, like aloe, sago palm, oleander, and certain lilies, can be toxic to dogs and cats, causing anything from stomach upset to serious illness. Before bringing a new plant home—or letting your pet explore outside—check whether it’s safe.

This ASPCA guide is a helpful resource for identifying dog-safe and toxic plants:

If your pet ever ingests a toxic plant, don’t wait- Emergency Pet Care of Texas is here 24/7 to provide immediate treatment. Quick action can make all the difference.

What is parvo? You might remember the vaccine your vet recommended to protect your pup, but why is this disease such a big deal?

Canine parvovirus (Parvo) is a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening virus that mainly affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It spreads easily through contact with infected dogs or contaminated surfaces like grass, sidewalks, shoes, or food bowls.

Parvo can progress quickly, but early treatment greatly improves survival. If your dog or puppy shows any of these symptoms, seek veterinary care immediately.

The best protection is vaccination and avoiding high-risk areas until puppies are fully vaccinated.

If you’re concerned about your pet, our emergency team is here to help. Your pet’s health and safety are always our top priority. 🐾

When Miss Janet arrived at EPCT, she quickly asserted herself as the Queen Bee who accepts nothing less than purrrfection.

She came to us after 24+ hours of not eating, vomiting, and hiding. On exam, she was jaundiced (yellowing of the skin/eyes), painful, and very weak. Bloodwork confirmed she was critically ill and needed immediate, aggressive care and her mom (aka biggest fan) didn’t hesitate.

Janet spent the next several days with us receiving intensive treatment, including an esophagostomy (E-) tube to help her get the nutrition she needed to fight hepatic lipidosis, along with fluids, medications, and lots of TLC.

At first, she made it very clear… we were not mom šŸ˜…
But over time, our Queen warmed up, eventually even choosing to sit in our laps during her tube feedings (royal approval granted).

We’re so happy to share that Janet is now thriving at home, gaining weight, eating on her own, and continuing her reign as the Queen Bee šŸ’•
