Taking a break from 🐾Pawsitive Updates🐾 to share a heartwarming story near to our hearts!

Do you remember Louie? He was the adorable pup who was found after being hit by a car. A very caring individual brought him to us after finding him in a ditch hit by a car, they were unable to keep him but wanted to do everything they could, and even mentioned looking for a rescue.

From the instant Louie walked through our doors, he was wagging his tail. Despite being struck by a car and left in a ditch, he was still thrilled to see PEOPLE.
As soon as it was mentioned that a rescue was being sought out, we knew exactly who to contact.

Our Practice Manager, Kaitlan, reached out to Jennifer H & P Animal Alliance while Louie was being examined by Dr. Roark and the Technicians.

From that moment, we were hopeful that Louie could lead a happy life, though it would involve some TLC and several surgeries.

Louie had a fractured tibia and a broken femoral head. It was up to Dr. Roark and Dr. Alexander to determine the best surgical plan. It was imperative that the fractured tibia was repaired first, so within a few days, Louie underwent his first surgery where a pin was placed by Dr. Roark.

This week, Louie was released into the care of H & P Animal Alliance!

Trish, a well-known volunteer at MVS, has her own fur-babies and goes above and beyond for H & P’s medical cases.

Louie's story is just one of many that rescues like H & P Animal Alliance could tell.

🐾A Little about H&P Animal Alliance! 🐾

H&P was founded in 2013, H&P is a non-profit, foster-based canine rescue. Meaning without foster homes, they cannot help the dogs in need, which makes every donation, Facebook share, and available foster home critically important.

When Louie arrived, his bill was already $200, and during his month-long stay, his treatment totaled $1,700. This includes medication, surgery, hospitalization...everything.

We are truly blessed to have rescues in our community, but they need our support to continue their work.

Ways to help:
🐾Share their posts
🐾Donate!! It's true what they say: “Even a dollar helps!” If 100 people give just $1, that’s $100!
🐾If you can’t donate, consider fostering.
Foster homes are critical for rescues like H&P Animal Alliance!

And remember:
🏠Adopt, don’t shop!
🏥Spaying and neutering saves lives!

🐾Pawsitive updates at MVS🐾

💬Appointment, Walk-in, or..🥁..Patient Admit?!💬

So far, we have discussed how we classify your visit, and how Appointments differ from walk-ins.

Today we are sharing some more information on Appointments, and then..what is a Patient Admit?!

🕐Appointments are scheduled every 20 minutes

🚶🏽Walk-ins, (unless it is a sudden emergency), are seen on a first come, first serve basis, between Appointments if available, or if an appointment is a no-show, during that appointment slot.

🏨 Patient Admit 🏨

Patient Admit, is the next best option to a Walk-in.

A patient admit is admitted into the hospital for their examination and we let you know once they have been seen by the Doctors that they are ready to go home.

❓Why admit over a walk-in or appointment??

🩺Admitting allows the DVM/TECHNICIANS to run bloodwork/do x-rays/exams in the treatment area in between other patients as they wait on results, pet parent decisions etc. for appointments in the examination room, allowing more time for diagnostics, monitoring, and treatment.

⏳Walk-in wait times can be anywhere from an hour (+), Patient Admits ensure that our patient, your fur baby, is in the a/c, in a comfortable area, with water and the kennel team taking care of them as they wait for their turn with the DVM/Technicians. This gives you as the pet parent time get some errands taken care of while having the peace of mind that we are taking care of your baby!

🥰Kind of like daycare but with medical care, and lots of love from the team!

It's time for 🐾"Pawsitive Updates at MVS!"🐾

🕐What is an appointment for?
Appointments are for the services we discussed yesterday, that we classify as routine.

🤨Why?

🥰Appointments are seen within 15 minutes of their appointment time, meaning less wait time and less time for the patients to get stressed!

🩺Appointments are also better for the DVM/Technician team to look at day to day and prepare for each appointment and surgery in a way that helps each patient get seen within an adequate amount of time of the scheduled appointment, and with scheduling emergency surgeries and treatments.

🚶🏻‍♀️Walk- ins

Are walk-in's still offered?

Absolutely! We understand that sometimes you just cannot plan ahead whether it is because of work schedules, kids school schedules, or after school activities.

⏳However - wait times are the biggest issue for *Non-Emergent* Walk-in's.

🥅Our goal is to ensure each patient that needs us can be seen AND not have a super long wait time.

🩺Sometimes the Lobby and front desk are calm and cool and relaxing, but the DVM/Technicians are super busy with the patients that we have already seen and admitted into the hospital for treatment, surgery, or evaluation.

🐶Each and every day that you entrust us with the care and treatment of you beloved family members we strive to ensure they and all the patients get the best of the team. 🐱

Remember to keep an eye out for tomorrows 🐾"Pawsitive Updates at MVS!"🐾 where we will begin discussing "Patient Admits"!

❓As always please leave any questions, we are gaining a lot of insight on how to best answer these questions every day!

Thank you for joining todays episode of:

🐾"Pawsitive Updates at MVS" 🐾

🩺How do we classify your visit?

📆 Routine Services, (including but not limited to)

-Vaccines, Nails, A**l Glands,
-Repeat injections such as Depo & Convenia, Cytopoint, and Proheart/Bravecto Quantum
-Allergy flair ups, Chronic ear flair ups

-Think about things that are re-occurring/regular for your pet,
whether it is every-other week, once a month, or even once a year it is considered Routine.

🆘️ Emergency Services:
Hit by a car, Heat stroke, Gunshot wounds, if your pet ate something like a corn cob, got into the trash, or maybe even sudden onset of symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea.

-Think anything that JUST HAPPENED and cannot wait.

🫶The Question:

Why are there changes? 😟
😱Great question!

These updates are not new; however, we are trying to help everyone understand what the process is in our clinic. We are doing our best each and every day to see the pets in and around Columbia County as every patient is important.

Whether it is a preventive service or emergency service we want to ensure each patient is being seen and having the full attention of the team during their visit. 🥰

👀Remember to watch our page for more info! Please keep asking questions as we go! Our post from last week has a lot of really great questions that we will be addressing as we continue on our journey!

🥵 It is HOT, HOT, HOT! 🥵

With this week's heat advisory here are a few pointers to prevent heat stroke:

🚰Make sure all pets have access to plenty of fresh water.

⛱️Ensure access to shade is avilable for any outside time.

⏳️ Limit time outdoors to less than 10 minutes.

🐕 Limit or Exclude walks during the hottest parts of the day.

❗️Remember just because the sun is down/low does not mean it is cooler.

If you think your pet has gotten too hot begin cooling them down with
💧LUKE WARM WATER💧 *NOT COLD*, and get them to your Veterinarian ASAP!

Be sure to let your Vet clinic know you are on the way so they can be prepped and ready for your emergency.

We hope everyone stays safe, cool, and healthy in the heat.
