UPDATE: Sadly Olive crossed over the rainbow bridge May 5 while in the loving care of her foster. Olive was determined to be 14 plus years old when she came into our care. She received medical care as needed however recently her body started to shut down and she began to stop eating. It was determined to help her cross over peacefully. We thank everyone who helped Olive in her last days especially her foster home where she was loved and well cared for.

Olive is getting the special attention that the Second Chance Program offers. We are a program of Monroe County Friends of Animals. Donations toward the care of these animals is greatly appreciated, please note on your check that it is for second Chance pals. You can mail your donation to MCFA, PO Box 106, Vonore, Tennessee 37778.

When Olive is ready for adoption she will appear on the MCFA website at www.monroecountyfriendsofanimals.org.

My shelter foster "Olive" has been with me for about 5 weeks now. She is now in the shelters "Second Chance Pals" program for our senior shelter dogs. Olive was brought into the shelter as a stray by Animal Control. No owner reclaim. Olive wasn't too happy about her vet exam or having to stay at the shelter for the day while I took care of other things. She still needs a dental and a growth removed. Otherwise, she is in fairly good health. Hopefully, we can have her up for adoption soon. She is a sweetheart. We think she is a Corgi mix - maybe 10 years young.

Meet our new Second Chance Pals foster Jill!

Here is what her foster says about her:

Today Jill (my Second Chance Pals foster for the shelter) had her wellness exam. Jill is in MCFA's SCP program for senior dogs. Overall, Jill is in fairly good health for being approx. 9 years old. Her elderly owner passed and Jill found herself alone on a large farm. Jill gave out lots of kisses during her exam. Although she needs a dental, her overall dental health is good. However, Jill has had over 20 puppies over the years. Her last litter was in 12/2020. Since Jill was never spayed, and her body produce many hormones, she will need 2 significant surgeries to repair her mammary tumors. Besides producing unwanted litters, overbreeding has taken a toll on her overall health.

ADOPTED!

NEW TO SECOND CHANCE PALS

Shaggy is about 10 yrs old. Shaggy has not had the best of care during her life and was neglected. She is already resting comfortably in a loving foster home.

She has some skin issues (most likely flea allergies) & some ear issues, and she has dry eye. Most of this can be cleared up with proper care that we plan to give her.

When she came to us she was given a medicated bath and she was started on medication. The eye medication is on order and a dental is scheduled.

If you wish to donate to Shaggy's care you can send a check to Monroe County Friends of Animals, P.O. Box 106, Vonore, Tennessee 37885. Thank you!
Please note on your check that it is for Shaggy, SCP.

Snowball had major surgery on Thursday and came out of it doing great! Here she is in her recovery suit with a wonderful smile on her face! Prior to surgery Snowball was excited to receive a blanket and a couple of toys from a group called Fur Angel Blessing Blanketeers. Volunteers with this group make blankets and donate them to special needs dogs like Snowball. The blanket was sent with many prayers for Snowball! Snowball is recuperating in a loving foster home which will take several weeks. She had a large softball size tumor removed from her belly and has another surgery scheduled after she completely heals.

If you wish to donate to Second Chance Pals to help with Snowballs surgery you can stop by the Monroe County Animal Shelter or send a check to the Monroe County Friends of Animals, PO Box 106, Vonore, TN 37885, please make out the check to MCFA and make a notation that your donation is for Snowball with the Second Chance Pals program. Overages will be used for other needy animals in our care. Thank you.

ADOPTED!

Snowball is an 11 year old female Maltese mix. She is the newest member of Second Chance Pals. She has a huge mammary tumor that will be removed in the near future. She has been checked at the Monroe County Animal Hospital and the doctors there feel confident that she has a good prognosis. It will be a long incision as they will remove the entire tumor which affects one side of her abdomen and then they will spay her at the same time. Recovery will be from 6 to 8 weeks and then there will be a follow up surgery to remove smaller tumors.

She is currently in a foster home where she will receive the tender loving care she needs during her recovery. During her recovery time she will not be available for adoption.

She is housebroken and p*e pad trained, gets along with other dogs, is fine with cats and actually has great energy. She is a very sweet girl.

Second Chance Pals is a program of the Monroe County Friends of Animals. We assist those animals that are either seniors or may have special needs such as a surgery that we are able to address financially. We depend on donations for this project.
