Merck said it best! We do see cases of Leptospirosis in Hopkins County.

You’ve probably been told that dogs shouldn’t drink from puddles. Do you know why? It can increase their risk of a leptospirosis infection. ​

While an infection might not cause symptoms in some dogs, about 80-90% of infected dogs develop short-term, but serious, kidney problems that can increase their risk of chronic kidney disease. Plus, it can spread from your pet to you. ​

As per WSAVA - World Small Animal Veterinary Association guidelines, the vaccination for leptospirosis is now considered a core vaccination. So, if you answered yes to any of these questions, you should discuss leptospirosis vaccination with your veterinarian.
