No “More Than Just a Dream” here — Fitz and Mellie were our Pet of the Week on 105.5 Triple M!

These two were adopted from DCHS as kittens in 2013 (check out their baby photos in the comments), and after their owner recently passed away, they’re back with us looking for a new rhythm and a family to love again.

Quiet, calm, and famously snuggly, this bonded black-cat duo is all about mellow vibes and lap time. They’re currently chilling in a staff office where you’ll usually find them curled up together, bird-watching, or enjoying a little catnip jam session.

They’ve been a pair their whole lives, and we’re keeping the band together — so they’ll need a home as a duo.

Want to meet Fitz and Mellie? Just ask our adoption center staff to meet them in their office. They’re ready to make your heart “HandClap.”

Our adoption center is open 2pm to 7pm on Tuesdsays.

Looking for a goofy friend? For this with Madison Minutes, we'd like you to meet Truffle. He was found wandering a Madison neighborhood at the end of October and brought to DCHS. After attempts to locate his family failed, we're now searching for a new home for Truffle. This nearly 60-pound adult pup loves receiving pets and will lean in for more. He's a sweet boy, who was wiggly and friendly when playing with other dogs through the fence. Truffle is strong on leash and can pull. He can also be vocal when left alone as he prefers companionship. Truffle is looking for a home — preferably not an apartment — without small children. He'd do best in a spacious environment with a family who will take him on fun adventures and spoil him with treats and love. To learn more about Truffle, visit www.giveshelter.org/adopt

As part of our series sharing highlights from our 2024 annual report, we're reflecting on how we stay connected with our community through e-newsletters and social media.

These channels allow us to share meaningful stories of pets and wildlife who have found their second chances and some who are still waiting for their new beginnings. We also offer glimpses into daily happenings at the shelter, Dane County Humane Society's Wildlife Center, and Dane County Humane Society Thrift Store, inviting you to take part in the work that keeps our mission of Helping People Help Animals moving forward.

When you share our e-newsletters and posts with others, you're doing more than spreading information -- you're helping shine a light on animals in need and expanding the circle of compassion that supports them.

You can find more highlights from last year in our Family Tails newsletter:

Dane County Humane Society's Wildlife Center had a very interesting case come through their doors this September — so unique that it’s only the third time in over 10 years they’ve triaged something like this! Read more about the Squirrel King below, how our licensed rehabilitators helped untangle the five young squirrels and cared for them. The squirrels were released back to where they were found earlier this week.

This , we're shouting out our gratitude to everyone who donated funds, unopened bags and cans of dog and cat food, and cat litter to our emergency pet food drive last week. We are so overwhelmed by the incredible response from our community members and businesses. Within three days, we filled 43 pallets of supplies for our neighbors!

On Saturday, November 8, we opened our barn as a pet food pantry, providing supplies to 49 households and their 181 beloved pets — including 108 cats, 67 dogs, and 6 small critters. At the end of the event, we were able to restock the shelter's pet food pantry, which had been completely empty.

Thanks to your generosity, we still have a lot of pet supplies and are working to continue distributing them to pet families who need support.

Thank YOU for showing what it truly means to Help People Help Animals. We couldn't do this without you!

Is there such a thing as cuteness overload? We think not! But being this cute apparently is exhausting. Spot, Snowball (white), and Panda (black face) were exploring, playing, meeting new people and snuggling with them during and after their Pet of the Week segment on News 3 Now / Channel 3000. They had so much fun, that they settled on a few staff members for their kitten naps.

They were among five kittens found in the woods in Portage and brought to DCHS in early October. They were estimated to be about 2 weeks when they were found without their mom. The kittens were placed with a DCHS foster volunteer who bottle fed them until they were weened. They continued to grow in their foster’s care, playing and socializing with each other and their foster. Now, they're ready to find their new families (and two of the five are on adoption hold).

Spot (female) is very curious and adventurous, whereas Panda (female) can start our shy but quickly becomes comfortable. Snowball (male) is friendly, curious, and very silly. They all enjoy playing with toys and receiving snuggles, especially when they're tired.

They're looking for families -- either separate or together -- who will spoil them with fun, playtime, and lots of snuggles and love.
