Meet Jasper, a sweet senior pup about 8 years old who’s ready for a calm, loving home. This 81-pound gentle guy came to us after his owner had to move into a living situation where Jasper couldn’t come along.

As an older dog, Jasper prefers a quieter pace and a predictable routine. He can be unsure around new people at first and may bark, but with patience and gentle introductions, he warms up and shows his soft, affectionate side. Once he feels safe and settled, he’s generally easygoing and loyal.

Jasper has lived with another dog before, but he may be happiest as the only dog in the home so he doesn’t have to worry about sharing space or food. He’s a healthy senior with some arthritis and knee issues, and he’s looking for someone who understands that older dogs still have so much love to give.

Jasper is a Lonely Hearts Club member, and his adoption fee is greatly reduced. He’s staying in one of our more home-like rooms at the shelter, so be sure to ask to meet him when you visit our Adoption Center, which is open tonight until 7pm!

For this with Madison Minutes, we'd like you to meet Lutz. This 5-year-old cat came to DCHS in December. He is extremely shy and right now he prefers to hide, but he is friendly. Lutz needs a very patient adopter who understands that earning his trust will take time. Lutz will need slow introductions to new places with lots of hidey options so he can explore at his own pace. He’s also not a fan of loud noises. Lutz is looking for a quiet home without small children and a family who will give him the space and time he needs to settle in. If interested in meeting Lutz, ask about him in our Adoption Center. To learn more about Lutz, visit www.giveshelter.org/adopt

Some New Year’s goals are about making a difference that lasts.

Joining a giving society at Dane County Humane Society is a powerful way to support animals all year long and beyond. Whether you choose Directors’ Council with an annual gift of $1,000 or more, become a Constant Companion through monthly giving, or plan for the future by joining the Legacy Society, each option helps ensure animals receive care, compassion, and second chances when they need it most.

Giving societies provide steady, reliable support that allows DCHS to plan ahead, respond when needs arise, and continue serving animals and the people who care about them.

If making a lasting impact is part of your vision for the year ahead, learn more about our giving societies on our website. And if you’re already a member, give this post a like to help spread the word.

Looking for a new best friend in 2026? So is Jaxx! This 6-year-old sweetheart makes a great companion. Jaxx may start out shy when meeting new people, but he quickly becomes comfortable and enjoys receiving attention -- leaning in for pets and staying near his person. Jaxx stole the spotlight during his Pet of the Week segment on WKOW 27 today (Jan. 9) and soaked up every bit of love.

This handsome pup is smart, and knows sit and down. He may be a little older, but Jaxx is still active. He likes playing with toys, exploring the outdoors, and going for walks and hikes. He walks very well on leash and is good with car rides. He just needs a human best friend to share adventures and relax with.

Jaxx is looking to be the only pup in a quiet home with a patient family who will spoil him with companionship, fun outings, treats, and lots of love. Jaxx is a member of our Lonely Hearts Club and his adoption fee has been reduced.

It’s , and a perfect moment to think about New Year’s resolutions that make a real difference.

Spring is one of the busiest times at Dane County Humane Society's Wildlife Center, and caring for injured and orphaned animals takes a community. As the season approaches, volunteers play a key role in helping wildlife receive the care they need, with Wildlife Center volunteer trainings starting soon.

Not ready for hands-on volunteering? There are plenty of other ways to support your resolution. Collecting natural foods and enrichment items, participating in citizen science opportunities, becoming a wildlife release site, or making a donation all directly help wildlife in need.

However you choose to get involved this year, there’s a place for you at the Wildlife Center. Tell us how you’d like to help, or learn more on our website.
