PSA: It has been brought to my attention that there was a large controversy about a puppy being purchased from a breeder that had received a canine corona virus vaccine at it's vet visit.
Sadly, in the family's excitement to announce the purchase of a new puppy and posting about it's vet visit on social media, the responses were many and quite aggressive.
** I do not directly know the parties involved, or their veterinarian. This is not my direct client**
I was told that their friends, family, and acquaintances were replying and posting many political, ethical, and religious rebukes sighting their experiences with the recent C0VID-19 disease and vaccines in humans. The discussions were angry, heavy and unnerving.
Firstly friends, do the easy research or ask Google about the canine corona virus before thinking that it is at all related to the human respiratory disease called by a similar name.
In Short, the canine disease called corona is an infection in the intestines, spread typically via f***l matter. It is not a new disease. It is no longer widely vaccinated against as it's usually a self limiting issue in an average healthy dog. The illness presents similar to food poisoning in humans (tummy troubles ie..diarrhea and or vomiting) and has a short duration, 1-3 days. This disease only affects dogs, not humans or other domestic pets. Although it's no longer a commonly used vaccine in general, there are times when a veterinarian will consider it in a pups best interest. Environmental issues and locality play a role in this consideration.
Please allow this family's disheartening onslaught be a lesson to take to heart... Before you post or respond to a post THINK: It the information you are typing correct? Do you understand the subject matter? Are you replying in their best interest or are you more concerned about social agendas.
Just something to chew on...
