Help us welcome the Ridglan Beagles into their next chapter.

As many of you have likely seen, beginning today, approximately 1,500 beagles are being released from Ridgland Farms in the Blue Mound area and placed with rescue partners across Wisconsin. We are honored to share that 30 of these beagles will be coming to Albert’s Dog Lounge.

We know there will be a lot of questions and a lot of interest in these dogs, so we want to be very clear about where things stand and how you can truly help.

Do we need fosters?
No. We are fully prepared. Members of our leadership team have been directly involved in this effort, and we have already secured experienced fosters who understand the unique needs these dogs will have. These placements were intentionally planned to ensure these dogs are supported by people who are equipped to guide them as they begin experiencing an entirely new world.

Can I apply to adopt one of these beagles?
No. Please do not submit applications for these dogs. They will require extensive veterinary care and, more importantly, time to decompress and rehabilitate. This process will take weeks, and likely months. If and when they become available for adoption, we will share that publicly. Applications submitted now specifically for these beagles will not be processed.

So how can you help right now?
If you’re looking to adopt, the most impactful thing you can do is apply for the dogs currently in our care. Helping them find homes allows us to continue saying “yes” to more dogs like these beagles.

It’s also important to understand how we operate. Albert’s Dog Lounge is built on a commitment to quality of care over quantity of dogs. We don’t just bring dogs in—we invest in them. That means improving their lives not only on the outside, but from the inside out.

For these beagles, that will include:

* High-quality, nutritious food
* Targeted supplements to support their overall health and recovery
* Comfortable beds and safe, structured environments
* Comprehensive veterinary care, including bloodwork, spay/neuter, and ongoing treatments

These dogs will also be extreme flight risks, which means we will be using additional safety measures and secure equipment to keep them safe as they adjust.

The reality is, this level of care comes at a cost. We are conservatively estimating $1,000 per dog on vetting alone — $30,000 total to responsibly bring these dogs into our program and give them the care they need. That does not include additional supplies and food needed.

If you want to be part of their journey, you can:

- Support our MEGA wish list (linked in this post or via the QR code or using this link: https://a.co/07T6iSXR)
- Share this post to help us reach others

We are scheduled to receive these dogs on Thursday, May 7th, and we will begin sharing updates once they have arrived and had time to settle.

This is a significant moment for our organization, but more importantly, it is a life-changing moment for these dogs. We are prepared to meet them where they are and give them everything they need to move forward safely and with dignity.

One final note:
We ask that all comments remain kind and respectful. We are not taking a position on Ridglan Farms and our sole focus is helping these dogs. That is, and will always be, our only focus. (negative comments toward Ridglan Farms will be deleted)

Thank you for being here—and for being part of what comes next for them.

Think all petting feels good to your dog? Not even close. Science shows a lot of what we call affection is actually overstimulation. Slow it down. Your dog doesn’t want a drum solo on their head. Slow strokes equal calm, fast pats equal stress.

A new peer-revied study surveying dog and cat owners looked at how touch relates to pet wellbeing and found clear differences between species. For dogs, gentle petting had the biggest positive impact, especially slow, calm stroking along the chest, shoulders, and sides. The more time and physical contact, the better, with added benefits when dogs lean on their owners or sleep close by. This type of touch mimics natural social grooming and helps reduce stress while promoting relaxation. In contrast, owner-initiated petting didn’t have the same effect in cats. What mattered more was cat-initiated contact, particularly head rubbing, also known as bunting. Gentle touch can improve wellbeing, but only when it aligns with the animal’s natural behavior and comfort level. Takeaway: If your dog leans into you, relaxes, or closes their eyes, you’re doing it right, if they pull away or get restless, adjust pressure or location.
