🔬 What makes BSFL so interesting nutritionally?
Black soldier fly larvae are naturally rich in protein, fat, amino acids, and minerals. Scientific analyses of BSFL have reported crude protein around 42–49% on a dry-matter basis, although their exact nutritional composition varies depending on how they are raised and what they are fed.
⭐ THE CALCIUM DIFFERENCE
One of the biggest reasons reptile keepers love BSFL is their unusual calcium content. Most feeder insects naturally contain considerably more phosphorus than calcium, but BSFL can have a positive calcium-to-phosphorus ratio. Research involving leopard geckos has reported BSFL around a 2.5:1 Ca:P ratio, depending on the larvae’s diet.
