Dog Gone Seattle

Dog Gone Seattle A 501c3 dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs at risk for euthanasia through foster care and adoption. In 2017 DGS was awarded 501c3 non-profit status.

Dog Gone Seattle is a 501c3 Dog Rescue dedicated to saving dogs at risk for euthanasia. Dog Gone Seattle founded by Jenny DB Nordin began as a resource for dog owners providing information on dog-friendly establishments and activities in the greater Seattle area. Over time there was less time for exploring dog-friendly Seattle and more time spent "saving dogs" and in 2016, Dog Gone Seattle - the n

on-profit organization was born! DGS is committed to saving dogs from high kill shelters in WA and beyond through rescue, foster and adoption. Since 2017 we have saved over 5,000 dogs from imminent euthanasia. We have a community of hundreds of fosters and volunteers in the greater Seattle area who make this life-saving work possible. Follow us and get involved as we save one dog at a time!

Welp, we missed the window to post our Washington Gives link yesterday… but someone still found us and donated $50 💛 (which actually covers our cost to participate, so that's something!)

The truth is, we’ve been a little distracted with two emergency vet visits in two days on top of all the usual rescue shenanigans.

Yesterday was for Andre, a Doberman who joined us last Sunday from Angels of Rawley Foundation - ARF. Out of nowhere, he stopped weight bearing on his back left leg. Within 12 hours, the lameness moved to his front right, and he began drooling and trembling. No pain. Just… not okay.

After 24 hours of progressively bizarre neurological symptoms, we took him to VEG.

We were considering tick-borne illness, toxin exposure… something wasn’t adding up. And then, after a lot of digging and connecting dots, we found it:

Poison hemlock had sprouted in the kennel run.

Andre had ingested it.

Most dogs don’t.
Leave it to a Doberman.

The symptoms fit. Diagnostics didn’t point elsewhere. And the reality is: there’s no antidote. Treatment is supportive only, and if respiratory paralysis occurs, it can be fatal.

So now he’s home. And we watch and wait.

If you can, please keep Andre in your thoughts.

And if you’d like to help with his care — Washington Gives may be over, but giving isn’t. Every bit helps us provide the necessary care and treatment for dogs like Andre when things go sideways.
