NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A LOST DOG'S ABILITY TO SURVIVE

One of the hardest parts of lost dog recovery is watching people give up — not on purpose, but because they believe survival isn’t possible. Sweet Pea is proof that belief is wrong. She was pressured out of many towns due to people pursuing her , forcing her to keep moving until she found a small town where no one bothered her and she was finally able to settle. Many people on Facebook said, “Leave her alone, she lives around there now.” But after more than two decades of recovering lost dogs, we knew that wasn’t the case. Before we even confirmed her whereabouts, Sweet Pea was surviving on birdseed, food left out for crows, getting into garbage, and following a route only she knew. She had hiding places we never discovered and survived in zero-degree temperatures. We hear it all the time — “there’s no way a dog could survive this long” — but they do.

Lost dogs are incredibly resilient, resourceful, and determined. Never underestimate their ability to survive, and never give up on them.
