is a local animal organization that serves many counties within New Jersey and tries to change our world - for the better. It's been over 20 years since a fire devastated our East Rutherford facility and we're in full swing now at 221 Stuyvesant Avenue in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. We invite you to come in and meet all of our wonderful pets for adoption.

It is with the deepest of sadness we announce the passing of Kathleen Johnson. Kathy served for many years as the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Bergen County. She is the person who grew our organization from just office based to a shelter.

Kathy was a tireless advocate for animals' well-being ; finding great fulfillment in helping reunite lost pets with their families, homing strays, raising injured wildlife, as well as providing medical attention and guidance whenever needed.

Aside from this, she was a valuable friend to many of us over the decades. She took great pride in the fact that her daughters and grandson remained active forces in this organization. Our cat room bares a plaque dedicating the room to her hard work.

Assuring her work will continue, her family is requesting donations in her memory.

Our Story

For over forty years we have been serving our local community, re-homing pets of all types and educating the public. We are a 501(c)3, non-profit organization with a very small paid staff, a volunteer Board of Directors, and several volunteers. Our store front/ shelter called Kindness Korner is located in the heart of Lyndhurst NJ.
