Update: Friday May 2: Rocket let us both pet him today. He knows a gravy train when he sees one. He apparently just decided he wants to live here and he isn't asking - he's telling. He spent last night laughing at the trap we set for him. This morning he was like, here, let me save you the trouble - just pet me.
Update: Thursday May 1: Stray dog was sleeping with our dogs this morning and going in and out of Ray's garage to eat. Ray got within 20 feet of him before he scurried away. Hides during day. Animal control dropped off a humane trap. Tonight will be our first attempt to lure him inside of it. We named him Rocket because he's so fast. Naming him...that probably means he's here to stay.
Update Tuesday April 29: Our dogs lost interest in the extra dog on the property. It's napping under a tree not far from our front door but anytime it sees a human it runs fast and far. But it is coming closer to our dogs and the house. I put a 30-day flea and tick chew tablet in some food and it ate it so that should provide it some comfort.
Update Monday April 28: Last night about 7 p.m. dog ran out of our fenced property through our front automatic gate and ran down the side of the road like a greyhound race dog. I heard dogs barking in the distance on McGougan Rd so I knew he made it that far. This morning he was back inside our property!! You know you are a great pet home when feral strays dig their way into your yard. Never had this issue in 21 years living here. Digging out, yes; digging in, no.
Update: Sunday April 28 from Kristen who lives three miles from me: That pit moves fast and far he is all the way from you, to us, sandy grove elementary, to the Davis bridge gas station. He is smart and somehow keeps avoiding getting picked up. I feel bad for him as he is now limping so had to have gotten hurt over last couple of months. Our neighbor has been trying to trap him for 6+ months now trying to earn his trust but not happening. I hope someone gets him and saves him before the road or a bullet does him in. 😢
Sunday April 28: Found dog Chason Road in Lumber Bridge near McGougan: Does anyone have a large humane dog trap I can borrow skiddish can't catch this dog and it is chasing my horses. I can secure him in a horse stall to evaluate if I can catch him. Pit/catahoula mix male looks like black and grey catahoula pattern with white on chest and some white on front paw (maybe more white paws but I couldn't get a great look), long tail (not cropped) showed up inside our fenced farm this morning with our seven dogs. It is skiddish and runs from us. It left the fence through a hole under the fence then it came back into our property through another hole way on the other side of our property (like it left and then dug back in) and it's been coming and going in and out of our fence for several hours as we are chasing our own tails filling in holes as fast as it is digging them. We contained our dogs in the meantime. Got a pic of it on our outdoor security cam and two of him in the pasture not good as he moves fast.
