Peak Bullies and Pugs

Peak Bullies and Pugs We breed for health first, confirmation second. We are not a kennel. They are very special breeds. They are VERY sensitive to temperatures.

Our babies are spoiled rotten members of our family and they are raised in home with our children. I encourage you to do your research before purchasing any pet, but especially English Bulldogs and Pugs. They are sensitive breeds that CAN have a lot of health problems. They can overheat in 70 degree weather! I will be happy to answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability.

5 1 /2 weeks old and we are 1 lb 2 oz!!!! Coral is eating canned food like a champ. Her belly is so little so she can't eat much at a time but goes back to her bowl every 30 minutes or so so I try to keep it full so that she can eat whenever she wants. She was originally scheduled for her first shots on Thursday but I'm not comfortable doing that with her size. I'll take her in for an exam this week since our rescue cats are scheduled for their shots but hers will have to wait until she's at least 2 lbs. 3 lbs would make me more comfortable. Her personality is the absolute best! She's starting to wrestle her toys and bunny hop. Her walking is MUCH improved. She's been off of Oxygen for almost a week and is doing FANTASTIC. Coral loves to snuggle and give kisses (yay puppy breath). Her biggest obstacle now seems to be just growing. She's about the size of a 1 1/2- 2 week old pug puppy.

A little update on Coral. This baby is tough as nails. She has been on deaths door more times than I can count and every time, she beats the odds. She is FINALLY off of oxygen and eating mush. She will be 5 weeks old on Thursday and weighs a whopping 15 oz. Coral had a week + of time that she would choke and struggle to breathe during her feedings. We scheduled to have xrays done to see if there was a structural issue. The day of, the xray machine broke. She hasn't had another issue since last Thursday (thank God!) and is currently seemingly healthy. Because she has been in an ICU situation for so much of her life, she is behind developmentally. Breathing is more important than walking though lol. She has been doing well with her exercises and will move to a puppy pen today. I am hoping that she can start to build up some more muscle and strengthen her walking abilities. I can't wait to watch this little potato continue to grow and show that sassy personality that she has.

Even with antibiotics, O2, breathing treatments and 24/7 care, sweet Coral is the only one still with us. I had a necropsy done on Brimsley and it was confirmed to be from aspiration. After a lengthy conversation about what and how it happened and how it was handled with the vet it basically came down to "some things are out of our control. They were nursing from mom as nature intended and things still went wrong. It's hard but it happens and there's nothing that could have been done differently to change the outcome. " Breeding is one of THE hardest things I've ever done in my life. The losses never get easier. Each one hurts as much as the first. I try to take each litter as a learning opportunity but this one is just HARD. For now, Coral seems to be doing well. She is going to be SPOILED ROTTEN. I'm not sure if she will be available or not and won't know for a few more weeks. If you are waiting on a black pug it will be late winter/early spring before I would have another litter. If I continue this journey. Lots to consider. I absolutely love what I do and have thoroughly enjoyed doing it for the last 10 years but sometimes it's a bit much and makes you REALLY start to think about things.

George, Coral, and Violet seem to be doing well. Unfortunately, we lost Agatha, Brimsley and Charlotte in less than 24 hrs from eachother. The three remaining babies will continue to be bottle fed.

Unfortunately things happen that are entirely out of our control no matter how careful and attentive we are. Sweet Agatha crossed the rainbow bridge sometime between 1am and 3am. She was seemingly fine at her 1am feeding. When I checked on them at 3am, she had passed. Mia is producing quite a bit of milk and her let down is fairly strong causing milk to come out of their noses (pretty common). I try to clear their nose as well as possible with a nasal aspirator but sometimes it just isn't enough. I am assuming this was a contributing factor based on how quickly it was and how I found her. The losses never get easier.

It's that time of year again when temps start to rise. Please keep in mind that the temp of pavement/asphalt is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the air temp. It does not take long for paws to burn. So remeber when going on a walk, to the vet, across the parking lot, etc to PLEASE be mindful of this. On a recent trip to Disney, it absolutely dumbfounded me that of the MULTIPLE service dogs that I saw only ONE had boots on. The highs were in the lower 90's. A good rule of thumb is if you can't lay the back of your hand down on the asphalt comfortably for more than 5-10 seconds, it's too hot for your dog to walk across it.

Mia has zero milk still but we're trying. Babies did fantastic last night. They have taken a bottle after nursing like champs. They all weigh 5-6 oz. Still debating on names but I THINK I have them chosen.

They're here!!! They are not as active as I like to see but hopefully after they warm up a bit they'll perk up. If not, I'll keep agitating them until they do. Mia did excellent during surgery. She's still groggy but doing fairly well. There are 6 babies. 4 girls (2 fawn 2 black) and 2 boys (both black). Thank you everyone. Praying Moms colostrum comes in soon and everyone wakes up enough to start nursing soon.
