Twenty-one years, 5 months, 25 days ago on September 2, 2003, Tammy Carlton started at Southwood Drive Animal Clinic. This, after working for 16 years at East Texas Veterinary Clinic for Dr. John Wood. She started as a technician working rooms, educating clients, prepping surgeries, assisting with treatments, stocking farm boxes, and going on house calls. After teching for several years, she moved up front to receive phone calls and clients as they came in to the clinic. During her time up front she developed meaningful relationships with many of our long-term clients. For the last 12 years, she has served as our Practice Manager, overseeing the everyday operations of the business, managing personnel, counseling everyone, and just being the boss. She has been involved in the evolution of the clinic building through its many remodels. She has lived through the changes of new employees and training of new doctors and staff. She has managed our schedules, communicated with sales people, maintained our computer systems and practice management software, dealt with power outages, storms, and computer crashes, staff shortages, Covid-19, irrational doctors, and irrational staff. She has mothered when necessary, nurtured when needed, and disciplined when required. She has given of herself unselfishly in her commitment and loyalty to us and now she has decided to shift her efforts in another direction. Working with a bunch of men is sure to be easier than working with a bunch of women. However, working with family may be a little more challenging. But when you think about it, that’s exactly what she’s done all these years…work with family. She’s had 21 years, 5 months, and 25 days of practice. We wish her the best!
