OldTyme Flame AKA “Terry” is a 2020 AQHA Bay gelding, standing 14.0HH. Don’t let this gelding’s age fool you, he is an old soul at heart and gentle for the ENTIRE family! From the trails, to the arena, ranch and everywhere in-between this gelding is gentle, safe, easy going and solid. He is perfect with time off, and has absolutely no buck, bite, bolt, rear, or kick!
Terry has been owned by a very good friend of ours for a while, and he can say nothing but good things about him. His only negative is that he’s literally too gentle and lazy to make a solid cowboy’s horse to day work on every day! I wish that was the case for all of them, lol! I have watched this gelding ride off after being turned out for several months, loped off after being in a stall on full feed for an entire month, and he is just as honest as they should be. He has great ground manners, and takes care of everyone.
On the trails he will go absolutely anywhere you point him, with no hesitation. He cross all types of water, terrain, obstacles and more. He has been exposed to all types of wildlife, livestock, machinery, and more while out on the trails. Terry has been used as a ranch horse, and has roped cattle out in the pasture, and has also gathered and sorted them as well. He just doesn’t have a huge motor or going to sit down and cut a cow like a cutter, but he will gladly pack your kids, wife and guest around your ranch. He will ride out alone or in a group with no problems. He does not get barn or buddy sour while you are away. We have ridden him in traffic, on the side walks, through the parks, and he is fully confident!
Back at the arena, Terry has been lightly started on the heel side, but could easily be the perfect playday partner for a little buckaroo. We use him in our lesson program and he takes great care of the kiddos. He WTC on a loose rein, backs up, side passes, neck reins, opens and closes gates and more. He is not a fancy show horse by any means, but is uncomplicated for anyone to ride and enjoy in the arena. He will go over the tarps, logs, bridges and more.
Back at the barn, Terry is very simple, easy and straight forward. He gets along with everyone in the pasture, loads and unloads, stands tied to be groomed, tacked and bathed. He can be stalled or turned out with no problems. The only vice that we would like to mention is that at feeding time, Terry will crib on the front rail 2-3 times when he first starts eating, only when he is stalled. It took me a month to even notice this vice, it is inconsistent but we do feel like it needs to be mentioned. He does not crib at any other time while being stalled, he does not do it if he is turned out, he does not do it if he is fed outside. He does not have any damage to his teeth, he does not teach the other horses, and he does not do it if he is stalled in a fully enclosed stall. I personally think he just does it on convience level type thing. He has had his teeth done and is UTD on everything. He sells with a PPE on file as well. Terry is located with us in Lufkin, Texas. We can help arrange shipping absolutely anywhere! AQHA papers and transfer are in hand. Please call Bailey with any other questions!
