📣📣 Important Announcement 📣📣
Intake is on HOLD for the time being while we work on a new project that's very special to me.
I chose to focus my rescue efforts on seniors and special needs because I know how overlooked and underserved they are. Seniors, sick ones especially, seem to be less likely to be fostered or rescued locally. There is an overall serious lack of resources for these cats, and my spare bedroom is not enough space to help the amount of cats that need it.
In my spare room, I have too many long-timers to continue bringing more in. We are providing a home for Music, a young cat who has yet to be adopted despite our best efforts due to his dislike for other animals, as well as bonded pair, Shadow (4y) and Bee (7y), our feral tripod fella. I know these cats may never find a home, and we may have to be their home forever, and I'm okay with that. But it is space taken from helping more rescue kitties, and I have not had luck in finding fosters to offset the load.
So here is our solution! The Cat Retirement Home Project!
I've put together a comprehensive budget after speaking to a seller of portable buildings to get a general idea of pricing. In order to buy the building, insulate it, set it up for electricity, and dress it with cat necessities, the total cost is estimated at $7500. (I can share the typed out budget with anyone interested).
I have applied for grants with no luck yet and plan to continue to do so. I also will be working on fundraising and looking into business sponsorships. I'm going to work hard to make this a reality as quickly as possible, and I'm open to any fundraising ideas! 😊
I hate to close intake in the meantime, because it may take a long time to raise this amount of money, but all of my efforts have to be focused on this project if I hope to make it happen. It will be hard in the short term to ignore all the babies in need, but it will allow me to help much more in the long run.
Seniors that are sick or injured are often avoided due to the financial costs and the risk of being stuck with them for a long time. I understand the fear, but just like any other abandoned pet, they didn't choose their fate. They didn't ask to be tossed aside and forgotten, or to be dying alone on the street. And their lives matter as much as any other cute kitten or fancy cat. I firmly believe that. And with this Cat Retirement Home, I hope to provide a place where these seniors can hang out, relax, and wait for their forever. ❤️
