The Haven ACS Lubbock, Dr. Brenda Wilbanks

is a non-profit, no-kill animal sanctuary located on seven acres just East of Lubbock, TX that was created by Dr. Brenda and Joe Wilbanks. The Haven provides sanctuary for homeless, abandoned, and injured animals, allowing them the dignity of living in a caring, safe environment throughout their lives if necessary. The Haven also has numerous adoptable pets and attempts to find loving homes for t

hem through an active adoption program. Dr. Wilbanks, Haven staff, and volunteers work continually to speak for animals that cannot speak for themselves. We are open Saturdays from 10am to 5pm. All adoptions are done on Saturdays. FM 1729

Individual volunteering- We love getting some extra help around here and if you need volunteer hours for school or just want to help out we welcome you to stop by! However, due to safety concerns we do not allow people to volunteer by walking dogs or playing with puppies. Puppies are very susceptible to illnesses and we go to great lengths to protect them from multiple viruses that are easily transmitted. Our volunteers are usually asked to help with a variety of cleaning and organizing.Our hours for volunteering are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.There's no need to make an appointment, but we do only take a certain amount of volunteers per day so it is first come first served. Just let the staff member on duty know that you are there to volunteer and they will get you started! Group volunteering- The response for group volunteering this last year has been awesome! The support we get from churches, work groups, and school organizations has been a huge help to us and our animals. We are only able to schedule groups on Saturdays and have two shifts available. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Just email us to get scheduled, but you have to be quick! During the semester our slots fill up pretty fast! We ask that you keep your group at a maximum of 20 people. However, if you have a small group of 5 or less we may be able to schedule you during the week. Community Service- If you have any court ordered hours to fulfill you are welcome to come out and do with them with us. We only allow these hours to be completed on Saturdays between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. You do not have to have an appointment. Some reminders- If you are planning on coming out and volunteering we do require that anyone that is under 18 is accompanied by an adult. Even if you are doing community service.Be sure to wear something that you don't mind getting dirty and tennis shoes or closed toe shoes. Once you are at The Haven please observe all of the signs on cages and doors. These are put up for the protection of our visitors and our residents.
